Allenstown may ban smoking on town properties
ALLENSTOWN — Residents will have the chance to weigh in next month on whether to create an ordinance banning smoking on town property.
The idea was discussed at Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting.
Town Administrator Shaun Mulholland said specifics of the ordinance — like whether it would include town-owned fields and open spaces — will be decided after the public hearing.
The public hearing will take place during the June 6 Board of Selectmen meeting.
The idea for crafting the ordinance came from the construction of the new community center on Whitten Street, which will house the Boys and Girls Club of Suncook and the Suncook Senior Center.
Because regulations for the Boys and Girls Club requires that grounds that house the program be smoke-free, Mulholland said the town decided to look into expanding the ordinance's coverage.
“We’ll see what they do on the sixth,” he said.
