GILFORD — Nearly 30 skiers were safely brought down a beginner’s trail on Gunstock Mountain after needing rescue when a chairlift failed Friday afternoon.
A mechanical failure caused the breakdown, resort officials said, and a decision was made to evacuate 27 skiers off the lift using ropes rather than having them wait for the lift to be fixed.
The rescue operation took about 90 minutes to complete, officials said.
The lift that broke down was not to be operating when the ski area reopened Saturday, officials said.
Gunstock officials said they did not require the assistance of public emergency personnel to deal with the incident.
