The Colorado Rockies selected Bedford High School senior Grant Lavigne with the 42nd pick of the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Monday night.
Lavigne, who accepted a scholarship from Wake Forest University during his sophomore season at Bedford, has until July 15 to decide if he will sign with the Rockies or play college baseball.
Although many project Lavigne as a first baseman at the professional level, he has also played third base and left field for the Bulldogs this season. He has been a varsity player since his freshman season and has started in every game during his high school career.
Lavigne and his Bedford teammates will face Concord in the NHIAA Division I semifinals on Wednesday night at 7 at Holman Stadium in Nashua. He enters that game with a .459 batting average, 16 home runs, 94 RBIs and a .649 on-base percentage in 86 career games at Bedford.
