The New Hampshire Executive Council voted unanimously today to table a lease extension and expansion proposal for the operators of Mount Sunapee Resort.

Councilor Joe Kenney moved to table it after noting that New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development Commissioner Jeff Rose released his approval and recommendation on Thursday.

The intent is for Rose to brief the councilors and Gov. Maggie Hassan on the expansion into what is known as the "West Bowl," Kenney said.

Hassan said the lease item would likely be on the governor and council's meeting agenda in two weeks.

The proposed expansion, the estimated cost of which is $12 million to $15 million, included relocation of trails away from ecologically sensitive areas, according to DRED. Citizens for Mount Sunapee's Future, which supports the project, urged the council to approve the lease agreement.

Opponents, including the Sierra Club, held a rally in front of the State House before the council meeting.
