Navy accepts delivery of USS Manchester; Portsmouth commissioning set for May

MOBILE, Ala. — The U.S. Navy accepted delivery of the future USS Manchester in a ceremony Wednesday.
The littoral combat ship (LCS 14), will be commissioned in Portsmouth in May, according to a Navy news release.
Delivery of the ship constitutes the official transfer from shipbuilder Austal USA to the Navy and is the last milestone before commissioning, the news release said.
The USS Manchester is the 12th littoral combat ship to be delivered to the Navy and the seventh of the Independence variant, which features a trimaran hull, ability to operate at high speeds and a large flight deck, the release said.
