EPPING -- Firefighters worked to extinguish a two-alarm fire that damaged a house on North River Road late Friday afternoon.

Firefighters from Epping and surrounding towns responded to the home at 231 North River Road after a fire broke out while a resident was soldering pipes in the basement, according to firefighter Paul St. Cyr.

The fire was reported at 4:20 p.m.

St. Cyr said firefighters found a fire in the basement when they arrived. He said they were able to keep it mainly confined to the area of an outside wall.

He added that the fire was knocked down within about an hour. The house sustained mostly smoke and water damage, he said.

One person was taken to the hospital for a medical condition, St. Cyr said.

Epping firefighters were assisted by fire crews from Durham, Exeter, Kingston, Lee, Hampton and Rye.
