ASHOOH (DAVID LANE/UNION LEADER)

A new PAC will give Republican Rich Ashooh’s congressional bid a boost.

Granite Voices PAC, an independent expenditure committee, is filing today with the Federal Election Commission in support of Ashooh’s campaign for the 1st Congressional District.

Ashooh is challenging Republican incumbent Frank Guinta in the Sept. 13 primary. State Rep. Pam Tucker of Greenland is also in the race.

Matt Mowers, a former executive director of the Republican State Committee and adviser to former Republican presidential hopeful Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, will be general consultant for the PAC.

Simon Thomson, who served as New Hampshire campaign manager for the presidential bid of Ohio Gov. John Kasich, is treasurer of Granite Voices PAC.

Charles R. Spies is legal counsel, while Russ Schriefer is media consultant, according to the PAC.

Mowers, in an announcement today, said Granite Voices PAC would raise significant funds from Granite Staters in support of Ashooh and invest in voter targeting, ads, direct mail and grassroots engagement.

Independent expenditures are, by law, not coordinated with a candidate or candidate committee.

The FEC defines an independent expenditure as an expense for something that is “expressly advocating the election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate that is not made in cooperation, consultation, or concert with, or at the request or suggestion of, a candidate, a candidate’s authorized committee, or their agents, or a political party or its agents.”
