New Hampshire Union Leader

August 02. 2016 9:44AM

The union representing state employees has endorsed New Hampshire Executive Councilor Colin Van Ostern for governor.

The State Employees’ Association, SEIU Local 1984, made its recommendation official in Concord on Tuesday.

The endorsement is the 10th labor endorsement for Van Ostern, D-Concord.

“There is no race this fall that will have a bigger impact on the union’s membership than this one,” Rich Gulla, SEA president, said in a statement. “The next governor will set spending priorities for the next two years, which will fund agencies, employment contracts, retirees’ healthcare and protect our pensions. We need a governor who understands these priorities and will fight for them.”

The SEA, which has nearly 10,000 members, endorsed Democrat Hillary Clinton for President and has endorsed two-term Gov. Maggie Hassan, D-Newfields. In 2012, the union endorsed Hassan’s primary rival, Jackie Cilley, before endorsing Hassan.
