Single mom seeks help from Santa Fund for 1st timeBy PAUL FEELY

Kelly has never asked for help from the Santa Fund for the Salvation Army. Until now.
The 25-year-old mother of three has worked in shipping, providing for her two daughters and son in their Manchester home.
"Dad isn't around," she says, referring to the children's father.
But this year she is putting her children before her pride, hoping the Santa Fund can help bring a more merry Christmas to a struggling household.
Kelly is proud of the fact that she has not had to ask for help before.
"We're not rich, but we try to take care of ourselves, because we know there are people who are more needy," she said, "but this year the circumstances are different. I could use the help right now."
The family's income qualifies them for WIC, but there's not a lot of extra cash lying around for the holidays.
She barely makes ends meet, meaning Christmas will be difficult without the help of donors.
"My kids are at an age where they still believe in Santa," said the mother of her two girls, ages 7 and 2, and a 5-year-old boy. "But I can't afford to get the things on Santa's list."
That list includes cars, airplanes and trucks for her boy, and Barbies and super heroes for her daughters.
Kelly has confidence in the generosity of Santa Fund contributors.
"I just want them to be able to have something to open on Christmas," Kelly said. "It doesn't matter to me what it is. As long as they have at least one gift to open. I kind of don't want them to know we're struggling."
Santa Fund donations may be made by sending a check to the Union Leader Santa Fund, in care of the New Hampshire Union Leader, 100 William Loeb Drive, Manchester 03109; or by placing a donation in the Santa Fund box in the lobby of the newspaper, at 100 William Loeb Drive, Manchester, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
