CONCORD — Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Sununu received the backing Monday of seven current or former executive councilors.

He received the backing of one of the other two Republicans currently on the council, Joe Kenney, R-Wakefield, and six former councilors.

Ruth Griffin, of Portsmouth, represented the Seacoast area, as did Bill Cahill, who currently lives in Piermont; three councilors representing the Manchester area, Ray Wieczorek, Earl Rinker and Louis Georgopoulos, and Dan St. Hilaire from Concord, all saying Sununu is the man for the job.

“I appreciate the support of these Executive Councilors very much, Sununu said. “More than anyone, they know what the job of governor takes, and who it takes to do it. They understand the role I've played and the skills and work ethic that I will bring to the corner office.”

Sununu is serving his third term on the Executive Council representing District 3, which stretches from Portsmouth to Derry and Salem.
