Swanzey inmate who walked away from halfway house captured

CONCORD — A Swanzey woman who failed to return to a state prison halfway house Thursday afternoon was apprehended Thursday night, according to prison officials.

Rachel Lee Read, 33, a resident of the Shea Farm Transitional Housing Facility in Concord, signed out at 3:30 p.m. for an appointment and did not return.

Prison officials said she did not show up at the destination she was supposed to.

She was returned to the state prison for women in Concord after her apprehention, officials said.

Read got a one- to four-year prison term for a fentanyl drug offense and first went to the state women’s prison on Oct. 31, 2017.

She was eligible for parole Aug. 30 with a maximum release date of Aug. 29, 2021, officials said.
