HAMPTON — A state trooper sustained minor injuries Friday after colliding with another car on his way to assist in a traffic stop.

Around 6:20 p.m., the trooper was attempting to cross traffic on the access road from Route 101 to I-95, state police said in a statement. His emergency lights were on and two lanes of traffic coming out of the tolls on I-95 stopped to let him pass.

Robert Kelley, of Albuquerque, N.M., was driving through the E-ZPass only lane in a 2017 Toyota Tacoma truck. He did not see the trooper’s cruiser in time to avoid a collision, state police said.

The trooper was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and was treated for a minor injury. Kelley was not injured.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Sgt. David Kane at (603) 223-8608.
