COLUMBIA — State police are investigating a head-on crash Thursday that left a 79-year-old Colebrook woman dead.

The two-car crash was reported just after 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 3 and Ewing Road.

Evelyn Goudreau received medical treatment but was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. She was a passenger in a 2017 Ford Edge being driven by Susan Ladd, 54, of Canaan, Vt.

State police said Ladd was heading north when her car crossed over the center line in a legal passing zone and struck head-on a 2018 Subaru Forrester driven by Robert Purington, 71, of Pittsburg.

Ladd was initially transported to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook with serious injuries and later flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

Purington was taken to the UCVH hospital in Colebook with serious injuries.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors, state police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Neil Chapdelaine at (603) 271-1170 or neil.chapdelaine@dos.nh.gov.

State Police Troop F staff was assisted by Colebrook Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, along with the state Department of Transportation.
