Khan!cord Day to beam up some promotions FridayMay 16. 2018 1:50PM
CONCORD — It’s Khan!cord Day in Concord on Friday.
Festivities and promotions throughout the afternoon will complement an appearance that night of the original intrepid leader of “Star Trek” fame, Capt. James T. Kirk (aka William Shatner) at the Capitol Center for the Arts, which also will screen the classic sci-fi film “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.”
“‘Star Trek’ continues to draw fans of all ages, including young people who are vital to the future of Concord,” said Concord Mayor Jim Bouley in a city proclamation. “It has inspired many to enter careers in science, engineering, computers and technology.”
Plus, Bouley said, “‘Khan!’ is one of Mr. Shatner’s iconic lines in the movie. Were he asked to pronounce ‘Concord,’ he’d undoubtedly nail the local dialect better than most.”
Trekkies can raise a Toast to Science Fiction at Area 23 pub, 254 N. State St.; chow down on a “Star Trek”-themed burger at The Barley House, 132 N. Main St., or a “Beam Me Up, Scotty” burger at Vibes Gourmet Burger, 25 S. Main St.; or wear a costume and get $1 off the admission fee at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, 2 Institute Drive.
In addition, there will be a KHAN!ed Goods Drive to benefit the Friendly Kitchen. Donations can be made to the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce through Friday and the discovery center through Sunday.
And for those going see the movie screening and Q&A with Shatner at the Capitol Center, there will be a special blue ale created for the event by Concord Craft Brewing.
