Woman attacked in alley near downtown Manchester club

March 04. 2013 12:33PM

MANCHESTER - A 26-year-old woman was attacked early Saturday morning in an alley near Canal and Depot streets by a man she thought was helping her locate a thief who stole her wallet

The incident happened about 2 a.m. The woman told police someone stole her wallet while she was at Drynk Nightclub, 20 Old Granite St., and she went outside in search of the thief.

She encountered a man in the alley near Old Granite and Depot streets, nearer to Canal Street. Initially, she told investigators she was not alarmed because she believed the man was helping her in the search.

As they walked back toward the nightclub, however, the man grabbed her by the neck and dragged her under a trailer parked in the alley.

The man choked her with his hands and sexually assaulted her. The woman fought back and during the struggle managed to kick him, causing him to run off.

The assailant is described as a Hispanic or bi-racial man, 20 to 30 years old, with a medium complexion and short Afro-style haircut. He was 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7 and weighed between 155 and 175 pounds. He wore a red and white hooded sweatshirt.

Lt. Maureen Tessier said detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and urge anyone with information about the attack to call police at 668-8711. Anonymous tips for cash awards may be made through Manchester Crimeline at 624-4040 or online at
