Second community health center clinic opens in Manchester

MANCHESTER - The Manchester Community Health Center opened a second location in the Queen City on Monday, expecting to draw as many as 4,000 new patients for the free and reduce-cost services the clinic provides.

The clinic is located at 184 Tarrytown Road, the address of Doctors Park, the physician offices adjacent to Elliot Hospital.

For years, city health officials and advocates have yearned for a second health center closer to the center-city population it serves. Initial plans were to open a satellite at the Easter Seals facility on Auburn Street.

The Doctors Park location will offer primary care services, prenatal care, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, Medicaid enrollment and counseling services.

Expectations suggest the new location will draw another 4,000 patients into the clinic, said Becky Vinson, director of advancement. The Health Center offers health care on a sliding scale to patients.

Last June, the Obama Administration announced a $650,000 grant to help fund the location. The Health Center expects to pay for the remainder through program income and donations or foundation grants, Vinson said.

The Health Center has a goal of raising $250,000 during the first year of operation, Vinson said.
