College Sports Roundup: Former Central standout Bakolas helps Bentley to title

Manchester Central grad Christiana Bakolas scored six points, including a key bucket that enabled Bentley to stop a Franklin Pierce rally, as the Falcons beat FPU, 74-55, on Thursday in the Northeast-10 women's basketball championship.

Bakolas, a sophomore, scored on a layup after the Ravens had cut Bentley's lead to five. She then came down with a rebound and fed teammate Kelsey Roberson for a 3-pointer that helped salt away the game.


Plymouth State 17, St. Joseph College 6: Brett Miller of Salem had two goals and two assists for the Panthers in their win in Portland, Maine.

Dowling College 12, SNHU 6: At Brookhaven, N.Y., Cameron Joyce scored three goals for Southern New Hampshire University (0-3) in a non-conference tilt at Dowling (2-1).


St. Leo 5, St. Anselm 3: At St. Leo, Fla., Dan Lagasse had two hits and two RBIs as St. Anselm dropped a back-and-forth contest on Thursday night. James Farrington pitched into the seventh inning, giving up five runs on 11 hits. St. Leo is 13-6 overall, while the Hawks dropped to 2-8-1.


Wayne State 6, SNHU 3: The top doubles team of Mitch Dobek and Mike Wallace prevailed for the Penmen.


Dartmouth freshman Mary O'Connell finished second in the women's 5K classic on the second day of the NCAA Skiing Championships at the Rikert Nordic Center in Middlebury, Vt., on Thursday.

The Big Green vaulted three spots in the standings, moving up to seventh with a strong showing in the Nordic events.

The University of New Hampshire slipped to eighth place. UNH's Annika Taylor raced to a 22nd-place finish in the 5K classic
