MANCHESTER - Residents of a Sagamore Street neighborhood have been allowed to return to their homes after a toy grenade prompted a scare Wednesday morning.
Police were called to 81 Sagamore St. about 9:30 a.m. for a report of a suspicious device. Workers digging in the yard near the foundation of the garage uncovered what appeared to be a live grenade, buried under 2 to 3 feet of dirt.
Six neighboring homes were evacuated, and the State Police bomb squad was called in to remove the device. A bomb technician X-rayed the grenade and deemed it safe. Police after examining it more closely then realized it was a plastic replica of a grenade.
