Man sought in afternoon gunfire in Manchester

New Hampshire Union Leader

MANCHESTER - Police are searching for a man wanted for firing a gun three to four times Sunday afternoon near Wilson and Hanover streets near where a rival was working on his car.

Jesus Luis Rodriguez, 23, whose last known address is 144 Lake Ave., is wanted on warrants charging him with reckless conduct and criminal threatening.

The shots were fired about 2 p.m. Several witnesses told investigators the gunfire came from a silver SUV, possibly a Dodge Durango, with New Hampshire plates and occupied by two men described as Hispanic.

Witnesses said the driver fired several shots from the SUV before it headed north on Wilson Street. A 25-year-old Wilson Street resident told police he knows Rodriguez and is in an ongoing dispute with him over a woman. He said Sunday afternoon he was working on his car when Rodriguez, driving an SUV, stopped at the end of his driveway. Rodriguez had a gun in his hand and was talking to his passenger. Then he called out to the Wilson Street man, told him how easy it was to find him and said he could kill him right then and there, according to police.

The Wilson Street man laughed off the comment and continued to work on his car, in an attempt to avoid confrontation, when he suddenly heard several gunshots, and the SUV sped away. He told police that was not the first time Rodriguez threatened him with a gun.

On April 19 about 4:45 p.m., the man said he accidentally ran into Rodriguez at the MB Barber Shop, 416 Belmont St. Rodriguez was seated in a chair and he allegedly lifted his shirt to reveal a handgun tucked into his waistband and said, "This is for you."

Police said the 25-year-old left the barber shop, and there was no other interaction between the two men that day.

Police obtained warrants for Rodriguez's arrest for reckless conduct, in connection with the gunfire, and criminal threatening, in connection with the barber shop incident.

Authorities warn people not to approach Rodriguez, who is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Rodriguez's location is asked to call police at at 668-8711.
