Former Nashua standout paces Fisher Cats' victory

Former Nashua South standout Kevin Nolan delivered an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning and that run turned out to be the difference as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats held on to defeat Trenton, 2-1, Wednesday night at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, N.J.

Clint Robinson walked, took second on Brad Glenn's single and scored New Hampshire's second run when Nolan singled to left.

Evan Crawford (1-0) earned the win for pitching two scoreless innings of relief. Joel Carreno pitched a clean ninth to pick up his second save.

The Fisher Cats (12-15) opened the scoring in the top of the third, when Adam Loewen walked, moved to second when Sean Ochinko was hit by a pitch and scored on Kevin Pillar's single.

Trenton (14-12) pulled even in the bottom of the seventh. Slade Heatcott scored from third when Ali Castillo reached on an error.

New Hampshire starting pitcher Marcus Walden worked into the seventh inning. He surrendered one run on five hits, struck out three and walked two.

Trenton's Jose Ramirez struck out six in five innings in his first Double-A start.

The teams will meet again this morning at 10:35. Deck McGuire (1-2, 5.88 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Fisher Cats. Nik Turley (2-1, 5.79) is Trenton's scheduled starter.

The Fisher Cats return home Friday for a three-game series with Reading.
