Police charge man, 68, with sexual abuse of girl, 9
RAYMOND — A Raymond man was arrested Wednesday on charges he sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl.
Richard Smeltzer, 68, was charged after an investigation into complaints the girl made to relatives that Smeltzer "engaged in sexual conduct" with her, police said in a release.
He was charged with six counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault and is scheduled to appear Sept. 9 in Candia Circuit Court.
Smeltzer's son, Christopher, is serving a prison sentence after killing his wife, Mara, at their Auburn home on Nov. 7, 2010, after finding she had killed their son, Mason, and tried to kill their daughter, Mercey.
