SALEM – Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a house and garage at 21 Senter St. Tuesday evening.
Eight residents of the ranch-style home were displaced, but there were no injuries to either residents or firefighters as a result of the fire, according to Salem fire Captain Stephane Cattin.
The call came in shortly before 8:30 p.m. and when the first firefighters arrived, the garage was fully involved and had spread to the attic of the house. Cattin said it looks like the fire began in the garage.
A second alarm was soon called because of the difficulty of fighting the fire in the attic, Cattin said. Crews from Windham, Methuen, and Derry helped the Salem department on the scene, while the Pelham and Hampstead fire departments provided coverage at the Salem stations.
The fire was under control shortly after 9:30, Cattin said.
There was significant damage to the garage and the house, but a dollar amount for the damage had yet to be determined, according to Cattin.
The fire inspector was still on the scene this morning.?
