John Lackey gave up four hits and three runs in 2 2/3 innings in his spring debut in the Red Sox’s 5-4 loss to the Florida Marlins on Tuesday at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Fla.

Boston split its squad on Tuesday, with the Sox’s other half beating Baltimore, 6-5, in Sarasota, Fla.

Lackey struck out two and didn’t walk anyone in his effort, his first since winning the deciding Game 6 of the World Series against St. Louis last October.

Mike Carp homered for Boston while top prospects Christian Vasquez and Bryce Brentz drove in runs. Miami scored two runs off Chris Britton in the ninth to earn the victory.

In the win over Baltimore, third baseman Will Middlebrooks hit his second homer of the spring, while catcher Ryan Lavarnway and infielder Brock Holt hit their first roundtrippers. A.J. Pierzynski went 3-for-3 and drove in a run, and Daniel Nava went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Allen Webster started and allowed two runs and two hits in 3 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out three.

Reliever Brayan Villarreal got the win with two innings of one-hit, one-run ball. Noe Ramirez picked up the save.

J.J. Hardy and Matt Wieters had run-scoring singles for the Birds.
