Fisher Cats' hitters can't solve Binghamton hurlers

Matthew Bowman pitched a four-hitter over seven innings and struck out 11 batters to lead Binghamton past New Hampshire 4-1 in an Eastern League contest Thursday at NYSEG Stadium before 1,251 fans. The Mets improved to 8-4 and the Fisher Cats dropped to last place in the Eastern Division with a 4-8 record.

Bowman walked one to improve his record to 2-0. New Hampshire starter Scott Copeland dropped his record to 0-3, lasting just 1-2/3-innings. On 41 pitches, he allowed four hits, three runs, walked one and fanned two batters.

Darrell Ceciliani and Brian Burgamy each singled off Copeland to open the game. A wild pitch advanced both runners and Ceciliani scored when Matt Clark grounded out to third base.

The Mets added two more runs in the second inning. A throwing error in the frame by New Hampshire catcher Yusuf Carter allowed Matt Reynolds to score. After reliever John Anderson replaced Copeland, Anderson uncorked a wild pitch allowing Travis Taijeron to score from third base.

The Mets tacked on their last run in the home seventh. Ceciliani doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Clark.

In the ninth inning the Fisher Cats scored their run off reliever Chase Bradford. Brad Glenn doubled with two outs and tallied on another double by Andy Burns.

The three-game series resumes today at 7 p.m. Righthander Aaron Sanchez (1-1, 3.29) takes the hill for New Hampshire.
