Windham residents asked for their ideas in town planning

WINDHAM — With the 2015 master plan process to kick off this week, Windham town officials plan to offer plenty of opportunities for residents to have their say in the process.

During Wednesday night’s planning board meeting, town staff and officials from the Southern N.H. Planning Commission (SNHPC) will be on hand to share an overview of the upcoming plan process.

Community Development Director Laura Scott said SNHPC would be working closely with the board to develop a community survey, host community outreach meetings and compile data to complete the initial phase of the 2015 master plan.

“Right now we’ve anticipated completion of Phase I by the end of this year,” Scott said Monday. “So this week is the official launch of our data-gathering and community-involvement phase.”

The upcoming master plan will mark Windham’s first time working with SNHPC in the process.

Windham’s last master plan was completed in 2000, though an update was done in 2005.

“Generally, we do a new master plan every 10 years,” Scott said, noting that updates are done much more frequently.

“It’s the best way for us to prioritize where we’re at right now and where we’d like to be,” she said.

During this week’s meeting, the planning board is also expected to discuss what outreach they will be doing to various boards, committees and community groups.

Once Phase I is completed, town officials will begin the lengthy process of thinking up ways to put the plan into action.

All members of the public are invited to attend Wednesday meeting to learn more about the master plan and to get involved. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the Windham Town Complex.
