Manchester market robbed at gunpoint

MANCHESTER - A Laurel Street market was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday evening by  a man wearing a  mask and who pointed a handgun at the 46-year-old clerk.

Police said the Savera Super Store at 250 Laurel St. was robbed about 9:10 p.m. by a man who walked into the store and pointed the gun directly at the clerk and demanded money.

The clerk was standing behind the counter when the man entered. The robber left the store with some cash from the register and also grabbed a carton of cigarettes on his way out.

The robber is described as a male about 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt with a white tag seen near the left front pocket. He also wore blue jeans that were faded at the knees with a hammer loop on the left pant leg. His shoes had some white portions, with black soles. The robber wore a black mask, but the clerk believed him to be a black male based on some exposed skin around the eye holes of the mask. The clerk also reported the suspect spoke with an accent.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Manchester Police Department at 668-8711. Anonymous tips for cash rewards can be made through Manchester Crimeline at 624-4040 or online at
