Nashua Community College graduates praised for efforts

NASHUA — Nashua Community College held its 43rd commencement ceremony Saturday with 270 graduates receiving degrees.

“Life itself isn’t a perfectly organized speech,” shared Marcos Diaz, student commencement speaker.

Led by Diaz, a native of the Dominican Republic, the Student Senate organized its First Annual Brave 5K Run, which raised funds for the Greater Nashua Mental Health Center. Collectively, the Class of 2014 provided over 2,213 hours of service to the community.

Nashua Community College president Lucille Jordan applauded the students for embracing and valuing the importance of service above self. Jordan encouraged graduates to focus on achieving their goals while “doing the right thing.”

Award recipients at Saturday’s commencement ceremony included the following:

President’s Award for Academic Excellence — Kenneth Maclean.

President’s Award for Service Excellence — Tim Hogan, General Manager, Crowne Plaza Nashua.

Chancellor’s Award for Service Excellence — Christine Gannon.

Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence — David Miller.

Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year — Kimberly Eckenrode.

Student Senate Leadership Award — Marcos Diaz.
