Ceremony to name bridge for fallen Marine set for Memorial Day in Derry

DERRY — Gov. Maggie Hassan is scheduled to speak as the Town of Derry pays tribute to fallen Marine Michael Geary on Memorial Day by formally naming a bridge after him.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the bridge on Route 102, just west of the Marion Gerish Community Center.

While on patrol in Helmand province, Afghanistan, Geary was killed in combat on Dec. 8, 2010. Geary was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Geary grew up in Derry and graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 2009.
