NHIAA D-III Softball: Top seed, defending champ head to final

PLYMOUTH — The top team in Division III, White Mountains Regional of Whitefield, will face defending champion and third-seeded Campbell of Litchfield in the Division III softball final on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Plymouth State University.

Both teams routed their semifinal opponents Wedneday to reach the title game. The Spartans blanked No.4 Pelham, 7-0, thanks to a dominating pitching performance by Erika Millett, striking out 16 and allowing just two hits and a walk.

The Spartans remain perfect (19-0).Meanwhile, it was an offensive explosion for Campbell, who ran it up on second-seeded Conant, 14-5. The result was surprising considering the Orioles were 18-0 entering the game.

On offense, White Mountains was led by Lily Stinehour, who went-2 for-4 with a single, a tripler, and RBI and two runs scored. Lilian Rooney went 2-for-3 with a single, a double, a walk, an RBI and a run.

In the early game, Hannah Neild had a single, a double, a triple and scored three runs to lead Campbell. Brittany McNulla went 3-for-5 with a double and two singles, and scored twice. Meaghan Coughlin hit two doubles and scored two runs.Heather Bilodeau went 3- for-4 for a double and two singles to lead the Orioles. Ivy Chalke hit a two-run home run.The defending champion Cougars led 6-0 before Conant broke through in the fifth inning.
