Interim Carroll County jail superintendent will try out for permanent job

OSSIPEE — The interim superintendent at the Carroll County jail is getting a six-month tryout for the permanent job, Carroll County Commission Chairman David Sorensen said.

Major Jason Henry took the interim position when Superintendent Jason Johnson resigned about two weeks ago, Sorensen said.

“(Johnson) said it was for personal reasons. He didn’t elaborate,” Sorensen said.

Sorensen said Henry recently joined the Carroll County Department of Corrections after a career in Merrimack County. He will be given an evaluation in three months and a second review in six months.

Sorensen said Johnson had been with Carroll County for 17 years and raised up through the ranks to take the superintendent job.

The Carroll County jail has a capacity of 140 beds, but the population rarely exceeds 100, Sorensen said.
