Fundraiser to help Lyndeborough assault victim

LYNDEBOROUGH — A Pig Roast and BBQ fundraiser for assault victim John “Pickle” Hyde will be held at Center Hall in Lyndeborough on Saturday, July 19, from 3 to 8 p.m.

Hyde, an uninsured carpenter, was severely beaten and strangled on May 3 in Lyndeborough. He underwent emergency surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital to reconstruct his badly damaged face. His medical bills are extremely high.

Hyde, 41, from Lyndeborough, was on a liquid only diet for two months, unable to chew. “He has to get his strength back now. He can finally eat and has a big appetite now,” said Hyde’s girlfriend Lori Fredette.

“He’s doing well. All his healing is on the inside because of the way they did the surgery but he has a lot of internal scars. He’s still puffy and gets tired easily,” said Fredette.

Hyde was able to return to light work this week after medical restrictions were lifted that prevented him from working.

“The fundraiser is designed for families to come and enjoy themselves with their neighbors. There will be a live band, silent auction, 50/50 and kids’ activities,” said Fredette. A Dell computer valued at $950 will be raffled off for a $10 ticket.

The pig roast will also offer hot dogs and hamburgers. Tickets are $10 for guests 13-years and older, $5 for children ages 6-12 and kids under 5 are free. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. BYOB and chairs.

Some of the raffle items include an air conditioner, weed trimmer, Fisher Cats tickets and many gift certificates. An August 2015 weeklong vacation in the Berkshires, valued at $2,500, will be raffled off for a $20 chance and will be drawn by Sept. 29.
