National veterans coalition endorses Bob Smith for NH Senate seat

August 23. 2014 11:00PM

Former U.S. Sen. Bob Smith on Saturday picked up the endorsement of the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition in his bid to become the Republican candidate for the seat held by Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.

Smith, a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, previously served on the House Veterans Affairs Committee and on the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee.

Smith said he was "extremely honored and pleased" to receive the coalition's endorsement.

Coalition chairman John Molloy said in a letter that Smith's "experience, leadership and patriotism are especially needed in the Senate" in these times, and said Smith's "proven courage" fighting on behalf of American POW-MIAs proves his ability to deal with adversity.
