A strong pitching performance from New Britain Rock Cats starter Taylor Rogers doomed the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in a 3-1 road loss Saturday evening in New Britain, Conn.
Rogers (11-6) gave up one run in a three-hit, nine-strikeout performance. He carried a shutout into the eighth inning, where New Hampshire's Melky Mesa scored on a sacrifice fly by Gustavo Pierre.Rock Cats closer Daniel Turpen gave up a double to New Hampshire's Kevin Nolan before closing the game for his third save of the season.
New Britain (71-69) led 3-1 after eight innings after scoring one run apiece in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings, including a solo home run by Eddie Rosario in the sixth inning.
New Hampshire (66-74) starting pitcher P.J. Walters (2-3) gave up three runs on seven hits, despite recording seven strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
