A pair of three-run homers in the first two innings put the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on the road to success on Thursday night.
Lourdes Gurriel went deep in the first inning and Tim Lopes followed with another three-run shot in the second as New Hampshire beat the host Akron RubberDucks 9-6 in an Eastern League contest.
Richard Urena also homered, a solo blast in the third inning, one of his three hits. Leadoff man Jonathan Davis did his job, collecting a double and two singles and scoring three runs. Harold Ramirez added a double and two singles, too, to contribute to the Fisher Cats’ 13 hit attack.
Jon Harris earned the victory for New Hampshire, pitching six effective innings. He allowed two runs, both earned, on four hits. Harris walked three and fanned six. Andrew Case pitched to one batter in the bottom of the ninth to earn his sixth save. With the bases loaded, he got Eric Haase to ground into a double play to end it.
The Fisher Cats moved on to play Erie tonight in the opener of a three-game series.
