Police: Missing Salem children found with family in Colorado

September 17. 2017 5:25PM

Four Salem children were found in Colorado after their father was refusing to return the children to their mother.

“The children have been located and they're well,” Salem Police Lt. Tom Kench said Sunday. “They're safe and they're in custody of family members in Colorado.”

Police said they were looking for Matthew Giovanditto, 30, with a last known address in Taunton, Mass.

The mother of the children - a girl, 3, and boys ages 5, 8 and 9 - told police Monday that Giovanditto, her ex-husband, took the children to Colorado and was refusing to bring them home.

The mother was granted full custodial rights to the children and had agreed to let Giovanditto take them for a short time while she got situated in Salem, police said.

Kent said the mother, who wasn't identified, has a Salem address.

Police said they believed Giovanditto was driving a Chevrolet Traverse with a New Hampshire disabled veteran license plate and hauling a pop-up camper.

Police said Giovanditto may have been staying at a campground in Denver.

Denver police weren't immediately available for comment Sunday.
