NHIAA Roundup: Goffstown skaters open with 3-1 win

Noah Charron scored a pair of goals, and Sebastian Beal had a goal and an assist, leading the Goffstown High hockey team past Portsmouth/Newmarket 3-1 in a Division II hockey opener at Sullivan Arena on the St. Anselm campus on Thursday night.

Colin Burke added a pair of assists, and Grizzlies goalie Madeline Sage stopped 12 of 13 shots. Goffstown led 1-0 after one period, then scored twice in the second period.

Andrew Weeks scored in the second period for Portsmouth/Newmarket. Goalie Brad Weit mades 23 saves.

Goffstown swings back into action on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. against Lebanon, also at St. Anselm.

Girls’ basketball

Goffstown 56, Laconia 48: At Laconia, Kelly Walsh scored 21 points and Livi Brannen added 18 as the Grizzlies earned their first win of the season. Goffstown (1-2) went into the half tied at 24. Hannah Dow led Laconia with 10 points.

Goffstown is in action Monday at home against Lebanon.
