High School Roundup: Pembroke's Murray, Pelham's Poff hurl gems


Jared Murray pitched a seven-hitter to lift the Pembroke Academy baseball team to a 5-2 victory over visiting Lebanon on Friday, the Spartans’ first win of the season.

Murray walked three and fanned five.

Cole Hapgood had a big two-out hit in the third inning for Pembroke (1-3), and Cam Nixon (2-for-3) and Jeff Wagner (hit, two runs scored, stolen base) also contributed.

Derek Griffin doubled for Lebanon (1-2).

Pelham 6, Milford 2: In Pelham, Matt Poff pitched a complete game and drove in two runs for the Pythons (3-1). Poff allowed eight hits and struck out four. Pelham received two hits and three stolen bases from Colby Shawver, and two hits and two RBIs from Reagan Brunelle. Max Fortin collected two hits for Milford (1-2).

Salem 15, Winnacunnet 5: In Salem, center fielder Matt Soldano had four hits, five RBIs and scored twice for the Blue Devils (2-3), who trailed 5-3 heading to the bottom of the fifth. Catcher Brandon Wall had three hits and three RBIs for Salem. Winnacunnet (0-4) received three hits and two RBIs from center fielder Evan Welch.

Coe-Brown 1, Kennett 0: In Northwood, Jacob Bisson scored from third on a wild pitch to help the Bears improve to 2-1 in Division II. Brady Johnson earned the win for pitching 2 ⅔ innings in relief of starter Aidan Fillion. Bisson, Jacob Rich and Brendan Eaton had Coe-Brown’s three hits. Kennett fell to 1-2.

Nashua South 7, Trinity 7 (suspended): In Manchester, Trinity had a runner thrown out at the plate for the final out in the bottom of the ninth before the game was suspended because of darkness. The contest will be continued on a date yet to be announced. Cam Tomko had three hits and reached base four times for the Pioneers. Ethan Frenette and Louis Rosenthal each had two hits for Trinity.

Concord 6, Londonderry 2: In Concord, Eric Sullivan pitched a complete game and Alex Buteau hit a solo home run for Concord (5-1). Sullivan allowed five hits, walked five and struck out five. Concord shortstop Zach Miles collected three hits and two RBIs.

ConVal 12, Laconia 6: In Peterborough, Matt Bowman (three hits) and Casey Jordan (two hits) combined to score half of the Cougars’ runs. Jordan earned the save for ConVal (3-1) with 1⅔ innings of one-run ball while starter Connor Buffum earned the win. Laconia slipped to 2-2.

St. Thomas 13, Oyster River 9: In Dover, Andrew Cavanaugh had four hits, four RBIs and picked up the win in relief for the Saints (2-1). Brennen Oxford hit a pair of two-run home runs for Oyster River.

Bishop Guertin 16, Merrimack 5 (5 innings): In Nashua, Brett Anderson went 2-for-2 with a triple and scored twice for BG.

Softball

Londonderry 15, Concord 2 (4 innings): In Londonderry, Alivia Proulx went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in, Lauren Misiaszek went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Ila Brown was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Emily Nelson added two hits and three RBIs for the Lancers (4-1). On the mound, Brown struck out eight and walked one. Nicole Cacciola homered for Concord (1-3).

Keene 6, Dover 2: In Keene, Alyssa Barlett pitched a complete game and struck out 10 to highlight Keene’s victory. Reese Earle had three hits and drove in two runs for the Blackbirds (3-1), who also received two RBIs from Megan Healey and Emma Bartlett. The loss dropped Dover to 0-4.

Salem 3, Winnacunnet 1: In Hampton, the Blue Devils (3-1) plated a pair of unearned runs in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie. Lexi LeFebre and Becca Simons brought those runs home with an RBI apiece. Victoria Andrade had two hits for Salem, including a solo homer. Blue Devils starter Brianna Marino struck out 12 and scattered five hits. Macie Harkovich went the distance for the Warriors (5-1), allowing seven hits and striking out five.

Derryfield 9, Portsmouth Christian 1: In Manchester, Grace Feigl, Anna Welch, Taylor Santosuosso and Brooke Nolan each collected three hits for the Cougars, who had 16 hits in the game. Welch and Santosuosso both drove in three runs. Emily Moll went the distance in the circle and struck out nine.

Belmont 15, Newfound 0 (5 innings): In Bristol, Lizzie Fleming limited Newfound to two hits and a walk in four innings. She also went 1-for-1 with three runs scored as the visitors (3-1) pushed across seven runs in the third inning to break it open. Raven Gates went 2-for-3 and Julianna Estremera went 3-for-4 for Belmont. Newfound is 1-2.

Boys’ lacrosse

Windham 14 John Stark 3: In Windham, the Generals received good efforts from Kayden Easter (two goals), Parker McQuarrie (one goal), Ethan Konrad (12 saves) and Matt Bennetter (strong in the faceoff X). Windham is 4-0 while John Stark dropped to 1-2.

Derryfield 18, Kingswood 2: In Manchester, the Cougars (4-0) had three players combine for 13 of their goals. Connor Glosner paced the trio with five goals to go a long with three assists while John MacLean and Robbie Dowst each scored four times. Kingswood fell to 1-3. Milford 16, Stevens 4: In Milford, Gavin Urda scored six goals and teammate Cam O’Shaughnessy had three goals and two assists for the Spartans (2-1). Matt Hannon added two goals and two assists, and Owen Clary scored a pair of goals. Notching one goal each for Milford were Corey Girouard and Riley O’Shaughnessy. Corbel Sroka posted an assist.

Tim Gagnon made four saves. Josh Shaw and Kyle Forsley starred defensively. Quentin Bicknell scored twice for Stevens.

Timberlane 11, Oyster River 10: In Plaistow, Matt Licata posted a nine-point game with four goals and five assists for Timberlane (2-1) while Jack Gray, Vaughn Baurassa and Cody Fleming each registered multi-goal efforts. Oyster River fell to 0-4.

Dover 12, Goffstown 3: In Goffstown, Justin Colizzi and Cam Lent scored three goals each for the Green Wave (4-0).

Colizzi added an assist, Lent two assists. Dominic Silverio added a goal and an assist, Kyle Ferrero had a pair of goals and an assist and Andrew Housley notched one goal and three assists for the winners. Griffin Cook, Devin Young and Nick Mason scored for Goffstown (2-1). Finn Grant made eight saves for Goffstown and teammate Andrew McCarthy was 8-for-12 on faceoffs.

Salem 12, Concord 8: In Concord, Joey Calabrese pumped in five goals and Nick Gore added three for Salem (3-1). Ben Genest and Layne Parenti added two goals each, and goalie Sabestian Farah stopped 12 shots. Concord is 1-1.

Girls’ lacrosse

Pinkerton 19, Keene 4: In Derry, the Astros (6-0) scored 14 of their goals in the opening half and had 11 players score overall. Caroline Daziel scored five goals to pace Pinkerton while Kiley Davis picked up a hat trick. Keene is 1-2.

Boys’ volleyball

Pinkerton 3 Mascenic 1: In Derry, the Astros dropped the opening set before taking the next three to seal the win. Hunter Hazard notched 15 kills while Ty Behsman provided 10 kills and 12 service points for the Astros (6-0).

Pinkerton also picked up 30 assists from Brian Castle. Mascenic is 2-2.

Hollis/Brookline 3, Souhegan 0: In Hollis, Jonathan Brackett’s 14 kills and Scott Van Coughnett’s 27 assists propelled the Sabers (3-2). Souhegan fell to 2-2.
