Cavan Biggio’s two-run single in the eighth inning — the first extra inning — helped the New Hampshire Fisher Cats past the Erie SeaWolves 5-3 in the opener of a doubleheader on Tuesday in Pennsylvania.
The Fisher Cats completed the sweep with a 5-4 10-inning victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, Danny Young (2-0) blew the save but earned the win, pitching two innings and allowing a run and three hits. Dusty Isaacs hurled a perfect eighth to pick up his first save of the season.
Jon Berti had three singles and two runs batted in for New Hampshire. Gunnar Heidt added an RBI double and single.
In the second game, Heidt’s sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning proved to be the difference.
Kirby Snead worked around a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 10th to earn his first save.
Travis Bergen (1-0) allowed single runs in both the eighth and ninth innings, allowing the SeaWolves to tie the game twice, but earned the victory.
The Fisher Cats won the nightcap despite getting only three hits over the 10 innings. One of those hits was a solo homer, in the sixth inning, by Andrew Guillotte, his first of the season.
The teams conclude the series today at noon.
