NASHUA — One of North America’s most modern cleanroom facilities, at a price tag of about $20 million, has opened its doors in Nashua and already has plans to expand.
“We have a great staff of 85 people here,” Stefan Schurter, senior vice president of Prudential Cleanroom Services, said of the new laundry processing business at 45 Simon St.
The 70,091-square-foot commercial laundry facility will eventually be expanded by another 45,000 square feet and and then an additional 16,280 square feet, according to Schurter.
Once the project is complete, Prudential Cleanroom Services will occupy more than 12 acres of the site.
“We don’t think short-term. We really build with longevity in mind,” Schurter said during a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new facility.
Prudential Cleanroom Services is a division of Prudential Overall Supply, a provider of reusable work apparel and related textiles. The company purchased the land in Nashua from a church organization that decided not to build on the property.
“This is the most modern facility probably in the world as it relates to this work,” said Will Arvelo, director of the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development.
Arvelo praised the company for employing a diverse workforce and reaching out to residents with different cultures in need of work.
“I wish every company in New Hampshire, really, thought the way you do,” Arvelo told company leaders.
Prudential Cleanroom Services provides laundry services to companies in the pharmaceutical, aerospace, electronic and military fields. The new Nashua facility has two components to its plant — the cleanroom area and its industrial cleaner space.
The packaging section has 560 air changes per hour to ensure the most thorough and clean product, according Schurter.
To remain competitive, some of the elements of the cleaning process used by Prudential Cleanroom Services are kept confidential.
Mayor Jim Donchess said he did not realize how large and modern the new commercial laundry facility would be when the company broke ground, adding he is pleased the company is serving very important industries, including some local businesses.
Tracy Hatch, president and CEO of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, said it is inspiring to hear about a company like Prudential Cleanroom Services that creates a vision, acts on that goal and is able to accomplish it while remaining debt free.
Brad Schacherl is the general manager at the new facility.
Prudential Overall Supply, headquartered in Irvine, Calif., has been operating since 1932. Aside from its new Nashua site, Prudential Overall Supply recently opened a new service center in St. Louis, Mo.
