New Hampshire Union Leader Publisher Joe McQuaid and former Congressman Chuck Douglas have been added to the roster for the upcoming roast of former Gov. John H. Sununu at a state Republican Party fundraiser on Aug. 30.

The event will be held at Castleton Banquet and Conference Center in Windham with a 5:30 p.m. reception preceding the 6:30 p.m. dinner.

“We are excited to roll out Union Leader Publisher Joe McQuaid and former Congressman Chuck Douglas as additional roasters for the upcoming roast of John H. Sununu,” said NHGOP Chair Wayne MacDonald.

Douglas served as a New Hampshire Supreme Court Justice from 1977 to 1985 and as a congressman in the House of Representatives, 2nd District, from 1989 to 1990. He now is in private practice.

McQuaid has held various executive positions at the Union Leader since 1970, including Sunday editor, managing editor, editor-in-chief and publisher.

Andy Card and David Carney are also scheduled to participate in the event. Card was chief of staff to President George W. Bush, while Sununu held that job under Bush's father, President George H.W. Bush.

David Carney, a longtime Republican strategist in New Hampshire, will emcee the event. Carney was a top staffer for Sununu at the State House while Sununu served as governor in the 1980s.

“By joining Andy Card and David Carney on the stage, Joe McQuaid and Congressman Douglas will honor and pay tribute to the service that former governor and White House Chief of Staff John H. Sununu has provided to the state and to the nation,” said MacDonald.

Other roasters are to be announced later this month.
