The Plymouth Regional High School football team's defense pitched a shutout in the first half and allowed only one touchdown to help the Bobcats secure a 27-13 home victory over John Stark of Weare on Saturday at George C. Zoulias Field in Plymouth.
Plymouth (2-0), ranked No. 7 in this week's Union Leader Power Poll, led, 13-0, at halftime and 13-6 entering the fourth quarter. John Stark (1-1) capped the game's scoring with 15 seconds left, when Nate Tower completed a 50-yard TD pass to Aaron Bergeron.
Owen Brickley scored twice, Cody Bannon scored on a quarterback sneak and Pat Malm also had a touchdown for Plymouth.
The Generals got on the board in the third quarter after Logan Beliveau returned a blocked punt for a touchdown.
Stevens 19, Newport 0: In Newport, Keeghan McAllister had all three touchdowns in the Cardinals' road victory.
Gilford-Belmont 20, Merrimack Valley 7: Blake Descoteaux scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, for Gilford-Belmont. Curtis Nelson had a 29-yard TD catch. Alex Cheek had two TD passes.
Pelham 32, Sanborn 13: In Kingston, Nicholas Milano hauled in two touchdown passes from Ian Hoey in the Pythons' win. Brett Lindsey rushed for 131 yards and a 30-yard score. Matt Crowley and Colby Travis also caught TD passes from Hoey, who was 16 for 23 for 203 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
Pelham's defense held Sanborn to 14 yards rushing. Quarterback Matt Sarette threw two touchdown passes as part of his 4-for-7 day, amassing 162 passing yards, most of which were picked up on the 66-yard scoring strike to Todd Dabrieo and 60-yard TD pass to Tavante Thornton. Both teams are 1-1.
Newfound 61, Bishop Brady 13: In Bristol, Tyler Mitchell ran in three touchdowns and Brett Pigeon rushed for two more for Newfound (1-0). Logan Rule, Shawn Huckins and Rolando Sylvania also logged rushing scores for the Bears. Bishop Brady of Concord (0-1) scored one of its touchdowns on a running play and another through the air.
Franklin 27, Mascoma 6: In Franklin, Harrison Clark tossed two touchdowns to Jacob Beaubre and also ran in a score for the Golden Tornadoes (1-0). Mascoma Valley of Canaan (0-1) scored its lone touchdown on a 3-yard bubble screen with 11 seconds remaining.
Winnisquam 39, Farmington/Nute 7: In Tilton, Phil Nichols went 11 of 39 passing for 220 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 74 yards and a TD on three carries for Winnisquam (1-0). Gunner Horman had seven receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Teammate Garret Mango had three catches for 122 yards. Angelo Glover ran 14 times for 116 yards for Franklin. Farmington/Nute (0-1) scored its lone touchdown on a 30-yard pass with 17 seconds left in the first half.
Trinity 28, Lebanon 6: In Manchester, John Thibault had touchdown runs of 15 and 25 yards for the 2-0 Pioneers. Jasper Fougere scored on a 5-yard run in the first half, and Foster Stacey clinched in with an 80-yard run on a busted play with just over two minutes to go. Lebanon scored just before the break to make it 14-6 at halftime.
