Firefighters union backs Pappas in 1st CD race

MANCHESTER — The state’s largest firefighters union endorsed 1st Congressional District candidate Chris Pappas after his decisive primary win earlier this week.

The Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire represent locals across the state and is a labor union that doesn’t just endorse Democratic candidates.

Union officials said Pappas was a proven supporter of their issues while serving six years on the state Executive Council.

“From motor vehicle accidents, to structure fires and medical calls of increasing severity and heartache, your firefighters and paramedics are ready to serve at a moment’s notice. With his years of public service hallmarked by a strong, pragmatic approach and years of producing solutions for Granite Staters, Chris knows what it takes to build stronger communities and fight for working families,” said Bill McQuillen, president of the union.

“Your public safety professionals know what it takes to have the backs of New Hampshire’s families. Chris Pappas has and will continue to have your back as our next Congressman from New Hampshire’s 1st District.”

Pappas faces off in the general election against a Republican with strong law enforcement credentials, Eddie Edwards of Dover who had been chief of the enforcement division at the State Liquor Commission. Edwards also had served as a local police chief.

“I stand with the working men and women of New Hampshire who need a voice in the halls of Congress. I’m honored to have the support of the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire,” Pappas said. “They deserve more than praise for their important work to combat the opioid crisis. They deserve the resources to end this crisis once and for all, and as a member of Congress, I will make that a top priority.”

Earlier Pappas was endorsed by the New Hampshire Troopers Association and the Manchester Police Patrolman’s Association.
