Q. Does it cost anything to be a Registered Member?

Q. How do I upgrade from Registered Member to Subscriber?

A. Upgrading access level is easy. First, go to After selecting the offer that is right for you, click the button to move to the transaction screen. Once you complete your subscription you can log in with your new user name and password. This account will replace your free account.

Q. I've upgraded from Registered Member to Subscriber. Why can't I read more articles?

A. You should simply logout of the site, and then log in again. When you sign in, the upgraded permissions will be granted, so you can have access to articles, videos, photo galleries and more.

Q. How will you know what access level I have? Will I need a login or password?

A. Subscribers and Registered Members will provide an e-mail address and password when they register. These credentials will be used by the site to determine your level of access. If you have a limited number of article views a number will be displayed next to your name at the top of the page.

Q. What is my user name?

A. Your user name is your e-mail address.

Q. Can I register more than one email address on my account?

A. Families can share a subscription to the Web site, but there will be only one login email account per subscription. More than one subscriber at the same account can be logged in at the same time.

A. Check to see if you are logged in. If you are logged in and still only seeing article previews, you've likely viewed your allotment of articles for the calendar month. To gain unlimited access to local news articles and more, please go to to review your options.

A. If a temporary vacation stop has a restart date within 21 days of when you stop delivery, you will continue receiving unlimited access to and the e-Edition. You must click on the link that will notify us that you want to continue getting e-Edition access during your vacation stop. If the vacation period is longer than 21 days or no restart date is provided, you will be given the option of converting to a digital only subscription while you are away.

A. A daily email is delivered to your inbox at publish time. In the email, you will be presented with a sampling of the day's headlines, and with just a click, are taken to your e-Edition…no login required.

Q. What if I don't want the daily emails?

Q. When I open a story in e-Edition, what are my viewing options?

A. You can view stories three ways. In the default Text mode, the newspaper page appears on the left side of the screen. When you click on a story, the full text of that story appears on the right side of the screen, including photos. If you select Graphic mode, when you click on the story on the left side of the screen, it is displayed exactly as it appears in the newspaper, with columns and photos in place. Switching between views is easy, and you can e-mail or print articles in either mode. You can also push the "DOUBLE" button at the top of the screen to view two pages simultaneously and zoom in on parts you would like to see closer.

Q. Can I download the entire paper?

A. Yes. PDF pages are available for users who would like to download one page or the entire paper for offline viewing later. On a broadband connection, downloading the entire paper usually takes about 2 minutes. Click the Thumbnail icon or the PDF/Download text link in the header at the top of the page.

Q. I use a dial up connection and modem to access the Internet. Can I view the e-Edition on my computer?

A. An Internet dial-up connection, through a modem, moves at a much slower connection speed and is not optimal for viewing the e-Edition. We strongly recommend using a broadband connection for the best connectivity and enjoyment for your subscription. However, there is a "DIAL-UP" button at the top of the e-Edition which will give you a reduced quality version if you cannot access a broadband connection.

Q: How do I print out articles, photos, the crossword puzzle, or the comics?

A: Click on the element you want to print, and then click the printer icon in the top right-hand corner of your screen.

Q: How do I email articles to another user?

A: Just click on the feature you are interested in emailing, then select the email icon.

Q. Are there system requirements to view the e-Edition on my computer?

A. To fully enjoy the e-Edition, your computer must be running the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox, if you are using a PC. If you are using a Mac, you need the latest version of Safari or Mozilla Firefox.

Q. Can I read the e-Edition on my iPad and/or Android tablet?

A. Yes. There is a free iPad app (search for "Union Leader") available at the iTunes App Store. The Android app is available in the Google Apps Market. The apps are free, but you'll need an e- Edition subscription.

Q. What are some of the features of Union Leader e-Edition for iPad?

A. The e-Edition for iPad provides you with a full replica of the newspaper. Once you login with your username (email address) and password, you don't need to enter this information again. The next time you tap the Union Leader app icon, you are taken to your e-Edition…no login required. You can turn the pages, zoom in on articles, open a new reading pane.

Q. Does the application require an Internet connection?

A. You will need internet or 3G network connectivity to download the e-Edition App and to download an issue. Once an issue is downloaded, it can be viewed without Internet or 3G connectivity. You can change the number of stored issues in the app's options panel.

Q. When I launched a new issue on my tablet, it took a few minutes to load. Why does it take so long?

A. When you open a new issue for the first time, it could take a few minutes to load. The application downloads one page at a time, but you can begin reading downloaded pages immediately while the rest of the newspaper loads.

Q. How can I easily view articles that I want to read on my tablet?

A. You can bookmark individual articles by tapping on the desired story or clicking on the '+' icon in the toolbar. The bookmarked story will be available for viewing by clicking the book icon in the left hand side of the toolbar.

Q. Can you tell me more about the Union Leader's Kindle Edition?

A. Yes. The Kindle Edition contains articles found in the print edition, but does not include all images or graphics. Also, some features, such as crossword puzzle, box scores, and classifieds, are currently not available. Due to Amazon corporate policy, subscriptions and single issues are only available through Amazon. A Kindle subscription comes with a risk-free 14-day free trial and is auto- delivered to your Kindle device. A Kindle subscription costs $8.99 per month and can be ordered by going to A Kindle Fire app will soon be introduced. When this happens, the display will be very similar to the way the e-Edition looks.

Q. How much does it cost to purchase a single Kindle Edition copy of the Union Leader or Sunday News?

A. Single copies of the Union Leader Kindle Edition are available for sale through Daily (Monday through Saturday) editions cost $1.99 each, and a Sunday edition is $2.99.

A. Yes, commenting is allowed on most stories within the comment guidelines displayed. Comments display the full name of the signed in user, nicknames are not allowed.

Q. A comment I saw earlier is no longer there, where did it go?

A. Sometimes comments are removed for the content of the comment or because the user has been removed. In rare instances comments will be disabled on an entire article. If a removed comment is reposted, the reposted comment will be removed as well.
