Manchester will have to wait another week for drug court
MANCHESTER — The long-awaited drug court for northern Hillsborough County, slated to open Tuesday, has been delayed a week.
The first hearing is set for next Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., according to Alex Casale, coordinator for the statewide system.
“The delay or push back was due to only having one person assessed for the program and they needed to have all the rights of the handbook and waivers explained to them by their lawyer so they are fully aware of every aspect of the program before they take a plea,” Casale said in an email.
Holding it off a week will increase the first plea from one to possibly five, he said.
The first case will go before Judge Kenneth Brown at the Hillsborough County Superior Court — Northern District. Brown is presiding over the drug court, a supervised program that provides treatment and recovery alternatives for certain offenders who would otherwise be facing lengthy jail or even prison time.
