The baby boomer generation has by and large ruined this society and culture. Just look at their materialistic and misguided lack of a value system replaced with moral relativism and phony public activism. And most sadly, they cast aside their children shipped to day care and plopped in front of a TV for raising, and you wonder why they are incapable of being civil and thoughtful well mannered young adults. Now they ruin the government with the same lack of judgment and understanding of individual freedoms and responsibilities...Boy am I ashamed to be a part of this generation.
- mk, hooksett

I now proceed with caution since Eil Pariser, Head of Moveon.org, publicly announced on MSNBC that he will focus his efforts on “those legislators who stand in our way…” “…including Maine’s Susan Collins…New Hampshire John Sununu.’

I don’t agree with Eil Pariser political agenda nor do I support Moveon.org motives and effort to impact a State election.
- Peter, stratham

Aileen - with all your talk of "the truth", it sounds like you feel as if you already know what the outcome should be. Then why bother with an investigation or impeachment proceedings?
- Tom, Campton

re recently passed legislation(Farm bill)
I watched on TV as Sen Judd Gregg voiced his opposition to this "loaded" legislation which did pass.
How can anynone vote for tax exempt subsidies for Kentucky Horse racing lobbies as part of a Farm rescue bill?
- RSK, Boynton Beach, Florida 33437

Golly - Churchill sure had it right - about the strongest arguement against democracy being a 5 minute conversation with the average voter.

Rep. Hall's efforts are NOT about GW and his VP. It is about the future, the Presidency, and the Constitution.

It rises above partisan politics.
Impeachment is the people's tool to restore a presidency that has gone bad.

The founding fathers wrote it into the Constitution no fewer than six times, and they carefully chose their language. . .

They knew there had to be a way of keeping the presidency an institution of decency and public service. It was to be a useful instrument when the law was broken by the Executive.

No President can ever be above the law.

It does NOT impeach the President.

It does NOT delineate all the charges that could be made . .

It does NOT attempt to prove any charges.

What it DOES do is ask the U. S. House of Representatives to start investigations pursuant to Impeachment.

Without impeachment-driven subpoenas, which overcome all claims of Executive privilege, the Congress has so far failed to deliver the truth.

. . Some think if we can just avoid all the controversy and come together in a bipartisan way, somehow everything will be all right.

It won't, not without the truth.

We can't make good judgments without the truth.

We can't evaluate our candidates without the truth nor can they articulate goals and solutions without the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

We all must have the courage to address the truth . .

Why MUST we do it now ___ we must challenge this administrations usurpation of power from the People, from the Legislative and Judicial branches -
OR ELSE these powers of an 'Imperial Presidency' will go forward to succeeding administrations!

THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY IN ACTION LOOKS LIKE !!!
- Aileen, Nashua

My goodness some people are beyond help. Do you want to make this a better place, or would you rather fight, argue, cry and hate forever like our friends the Israelis and the Palestinians do to each other? Dems and Reps both can/will do and have done a good or bad job. They all suck really. It comes down to who sucks less, I guess. That's rather sad.
- DM, Hampton

What a load of nonsense this is. We should impeach the leftists in Concord for dereliction of duty. Why are they spending profusely, running up our budget AND spending time on lunatic ideas like this? They had better start explaining to the voters why they will be facing a huge budget deficit this year, rather than a surplus or a balanced budget, like we have done for decades under Republicans.
- Michael, Manchester

I think Impeaching a Sitting President Would Be A grand Mistake over Foreign policy,What People in New Hampshire ought to know is That It will do more Harm than good over Iraq,But Guess who will get the Credit If this Unpopular President is Impeached-Osama Bin Laden,It won't be good News For Americans about An Unpopular President and An Unpopular War like Iraq,I would mark a Defeat for Our Constitutional Rights.
- John Huerta, Warren,Arkansas

DFM you know I meant the republican party as well I guess as my tax dollars and yours.
- Joanne, Manchester

Yes Mike, your correct. However both Bush and Cheney & Co., refuse to even go near a courtroom, be recorded or go under oath. How does that work? Are they new or something.
- Joanne, Manchester

It is sad, very sad, to see these bitter old hippies in action. These are the crazy things people do when their souls have been poisoned by hatred - but why are the citizens of NH voting them into office? Let them deal with their psychotic rage anywhere but the Statehouse, please.
- Tom, Camptom

Joanne, the impeached Clinton for lying under oath. Its called perjury for the rest of us commomn folks. The Democrats call it "Mis-Speaking".
- Mike, Derry

Wow look at all the relics from the 60's starting to crawl out of the woodwork.

Joanne, I didn't realize that W, and Cheney spent money personally to try and impeach Clinton. I think you and Tom are drinking the same kool aid.

"Theres nothing worse than an aging hippie."
- DFM, Salem, NH

Tom in Candia, if military held a terrorist and he had knowledge of a bomb in a school your child was in, what ways would you instruct the soldier to extract that information? Give him his Koran and wait for an inspiration from Allah to tell?

You are a prime example of what Saddam Hussein said before the war even started. Americans don't have the nerve to out last them in a war. Anyone or country that harbors these thugs are not innocent. They are collaborators. We should have gone in hard and wiped everthing in sight.

Just a question though.... What have Democrats in charge done for us in the last Two years??? They have raised spending 2-fold. Do thay have any ideas that don't raise taxes?? Whay are they wasting their time on an impeachment vote when we seem to have more pressing problems? How would they solve them???
- Peter, Manchester

Tom how about we talk about leaving our soldiers to die in Somalia? Or letting our sailors be blown up on the USS Cole? Or losing complete respect from the military and it's members? People like you make me laugh as you make these false claims with no real facts
except the ones in your mind. So tell me just where do you get this information and better yet how is it substantiated?
I guess lying under oath is not a crime against this nation huh?
I gues that infraction of the Constitution is OK?
Only if it is a democrat I guess.
Using your logic for this then we better impeach him,his father, Reagan, Kennedy and Truman. Tyrant? I think the real tyrants are the ones who spew this nonsense.
- Bill B., Pelham

It brings to mind Sir Winston Churchill's comment about the strongest arguement against democracy being a 5 minute conversation with the average voter. Who elected Betty in the first place and what were they thinking?
- AJ, Windham

Hey Tom, I live in Texas and they hate Bush here too. Your article is well written and to the point. Don't be thwarted by the "right wing moon bats" up there in NH, the ones that didn't mind spending $150M for a witch hunt over a *J but have no problem with a lie that has led to the deaths of over 4000 Americans....and still no OBL.
- Sid, Plano, Texas

I suspect that the State of New Hampshire has enough more serious and pressing matters to deal with than this effort by a few to pass a purely symbolic impeachment bill. Please resolve the education funding debacle first. SInce the democrats have been in charge of Concord, our budget has gone "you know where" in a handbasket.
- Jason, Keene

When are these do nothing legislators going to do something worthwhile? This is nothing but a joke, a waste of time and considering he is only in office a few more months a travesty.
While the cannot get a real education funding bill, they cannot fund their budgets properly, and they pass waste of time legislation they want to spend their time on this crap?
If your going to do this Betty then you better include all the congress that was in office at the time that voted in favor of the war.
This is nothing but grand standing and shows all of us just how useless our legislators as a whole really are!!
- Bill B., Pelham

Thanks for the advice Mark, and others. I always know I'm on the right track when certain people resort to name calling and the ever-popular fallback that 'you oughta move to -wherever-' :)

Seriously, though, it saddens me that so many people who, like you, claim to be patriotic Americans think basic American principles like not torturing war prisoners, or not bombing innocent people are not important, or that it is pointless to punish a war criminal.

I guess any crime is OK by some folks as long as we wear a flag on our lapel, eh?
- tom, candia

Regarding the Johnny Stephen campaign…
1. Why would a former DHHS commissioner hold meetings in a "Cigar Parlor"?
2. Why would someone who wants to change the way Washington politics is done have a meeting in a smoke filled room? That dates back to politics' earliest days.
- Pete Eldredge, Somersworth

Have some of you forgotten about those great retroactive tax hikes ol' Bill gave us?
People, remember, Bill was handed bin laden's "head on a platter" THREE times and he said he was no threat. Yet within a year of him leaving office- bin laden
attacked.
How was that Bush's fault?
I never heard any of my older relatives complain or call for impeachment when we dropped the bomb on japan after what they did to us.
In my opinion, that's what we should have done in BOTH Iran and Iraq.
We would have been out of there by now.
Why should we continue to support other countries that will never be able to help us? They suck us dry and then laugh as soon as we turn our backs.
Keep our dollars right here at home. Our people need it and we worked for it.
A Republican based NH is going fast.
Loonies from Mass., who hate how much things cost down there, continue to invade us and bring their expensive politics with them.
It seems most of us that post want a simple, small government. Unfortunately, the folks that read our posts are so far left that they are unreachable, or there are others that share our opinions. There's no getting others to see the light.
The radio is filled with Dem and Rep programs, but what good are they if the opposite side doesn't listen?
Any political shows on TV are a joke as the people just talk over each other and you can't understand anybody.
United we stand, divided we fall.
I sure hope there's a mattress down there for us to land on. We are all dropping like stones.
- Pauline, Franklin

I am all for impeaching both Bush and Cheney. They spent millions trying to impeach Clinton for something he did with a woman. They have my permission to spend as much on these two for doing the same thing with corporations. The american people were hurt much more by these two than with Bill. Besides the torturing, taking away our basic rights, spying on us, all their secrets and sacrificing our sons and daughters for an oil war when the real enemy is still out there. The worst administration in history and people don't think they should be impeached. What on earth is wrong with all you people from the live free or die state.
- joanne, manchester

If Tom from Candia believes what he wrote, he needs help immediately. Tom, your thoughts are not even worth the time to discuss. You are so full of hatred you cant think straight. I feel sorry for you. I also feel sorry for all of us. Our politicians, dem and repub dont care about our plight. Let me understand the hypocracy: we cant drill to get more of our own oil, but we scream at every other oil producing country to increase production. Cute. Iran is building nucleur power plants. Think they can see the future? Not us.
- Bob H, Manchester

Then I would guess tha MS Clinton should be impeached right along with him Comrade Tom. It seems to me that she authorized the war with her vote based on the same intelligence that he had at the time..... or did she not look at the intelligence?? To liberals like yourself, its ok to lie under oath for a Democrat President (which is what the impeachment was for). That was political.

I find it quite interesting that Democrats in charge, who can't find any important legislation to work on because their true Tax-n-Spend ideology will show through before an election, have no problem wasting tax-payer money on this waste of time. We are running a major deficit because of all their spending increases, but they can find the time and money to waste on this??

You need to move to Massachusetts, you will be far more comfortable there, sir.
- Mark, Candia

John Stephen has been campaigning on bringing "NH Values to Washington" and then he has smokeroom meetings in DC with Team Abramoff, I think he meant to say DC values to NH!
- Frank, Goffstown

What an embarrassment this woman and her followers are and they demonstrate a total lack of understanding of the world in which we live. If you want to be passive and bury your head in the sand while a growing movement across the globe is plotting to murder you and your children because you do not belong to their cult, stay out of government. I prefer to have strong sensible people whom take the 911 attack (and others) seriously in office, and don't need your efforts (lack of) to get the rest of us killed. And to Tom, your list of "crimes" is unfounded and just plain ignorant to the facts. And please tell me how many times we have been attacked since 911?? Perhaps it was no big deal to you..It is to me so do whatever it takes, yes TORTURE too if warranted.
- mike, hooksett

Impeachment is for "high crimes and misdemeanors", not for incompetence or unpopularity. It's not a recall process.

No matter how politically motivated the Clinton impeachment was, it was at least supported by the underlying crime of perjury. There is no similar charge against Bush.
- Kevin, Lancaster

A "Commission of Accountability and Reconciliation" to "indict and prosecute the guilty?" Now there's an idea Stalin and Mao would be proud of! Declare your political opponents guilty, then prosecute them in a show trial! I'll bet William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn would love the idea, too.

The sooner we get these preposterous 60s retreads and radical-chic imbeciles out of office, the sooner we can rescue New Hampshire from becoming East Vermont.
- Rick M., Portsmouth

Tom must be drinking the radical left wing supplied kool aid.

Get a life!
- DFM, Salem, NH

Buckley the wannabe spinster forgot to mention his support for the Dem State Rep from Rochester who has been arrested 5 times over this last year. He must support her since he has been mum since the story broke on Tuesday.
- DFM, Salem, NH

Such scams from a woman named Clinton and newbie called Obama who know how to lie like the experts they are- Denial and gullibility are traits Americans are perfecting. You think Bush is a liar- just vote for either of the two Democrats- that have you so convinced "change" is coming for ''the good''- your head will spin worse than the media does. lol. I also agree with Kristine- using Tax payers money when all they have to do is wait - besides: McCain 2008.!
- Peter Jacobs, Salem NH

Are they really this stupid?
Do they really want to spend taxpayer dollars on a guy that is gone in a few months anyway? He didn't do what he did alone you know. What about Ol' Hil?
If Bill Clinton didn't get impeached after all the sleezy things he did to this country, nobody can.
- Kristine, Salisbury

Fergus and any other American claiming allegiance to freedom and the Constitution should be ashamed at not supporting a resolution of impeachment. This is not a right or left, liberal or conservative issue.

It is not about the incompetence or complacency that led to the Katrina debacle
or the shame of Walter Reed. It is not about politics as usual.

It is about whether we the people will allow war crimes in our name; allow falsified evidence to be used as justification for a war of choice; allow warrantless spying on US citizens; allow American citizens to be jailed indefinitely at the whim of one man without habeas corpus, trial or sentence; allow foreigners to be kidnapped and sent to places of torture.

Anyone who supports George Bush supports all these things. Letting him leave office is not enough; impeachment is the only remedy that will send the message to future tyrants that we will not tolerate crimes committed in our name.
- tom, candia

Well, it's obvious from the first two stories of this column that the left wing loonies are out in force. Rep Hall and the nitwits from Newbury sure do make good points for Democrats.

God help US!
- Pete, Keene

I cant help but laugh. Betty Hall is still on this impeachment kick. The House shot down yet another school funding measure, keeping their do nothing record in tact for 10 years. Rome Burns and Nero fiddles....I suggest that Betty is acting like somebody in desperate need of Cholinesterase Inhibitors.
- Rick Olson, Manchester
