It is amzing that anyone would raise the race card in this discussion. There were caucasions (white is not a race), blacks, asians and I'm sure a lot of other ethinicities represented in DC on Saturday. The diversity was clearly evident on the coverage by FOX. perhaps they doctored the video? I doubt it.

Similarly there were democrats, republicans, independents and other political parties represented. All came together for similar reasons: They are sick of our ever expanding federal government, skyrocketing spending which obligates skyrocketing taxes and most sadly the piecemeal destruction of the US constitution. It started long before bush who himself violated the fourth amendement with the patriot act. When voters cast their ballots for obama they were misled that they were going to get political "change". Instead what every one of us US citizens received was a bill for failed banks and auto companies and a spending bill dubbed the "american recovery and reinvestment act", aka stimulus.

Now that much of America is awake, the voices against government run healthcare are growing louder.

Perhaps the best comparison for obama is not hitler, nor lenin, nor che, nor mao, but king george. The colonists revolted when taxes crossed 30%. Someone on the leftwing redcoats ought to tell the president not to worry, the "right wing nut jobs" are no more to worry about than the colonists were to king geroge.

The only solution is to purge the corruption from government by eliminating the influence of unions, insurance companies, lawyers, and myriad other special interest groups. Only then will we get "change" to rebuild this country "for the people".
- Michael Layon, Derry

What happened at the NH tea parties?

Wasn't there ones in Franconia and Manchester?

How do we find out?
- Annie, Henniker

They can swear up and down that this health plan will offer affordable health care, but the facts are it wont offer it to the middle class worker. Most of the middle class workers already have insurance. The only people who will get free or discounted insurance will be low income family's/ well-fare recipients.

As a middle class worker we are expected to pay for these well-fare recipients, many of whom collect because they had a child. How is it the working classes problem because these people chose to have children even though they are not financially set to have children. The people who are truly bringing down this country are those who collect well-fare, as there numbers grow soon they will out number the working class.

Obama is selling out this country for votes, the more government hand outs he offers the more taxes we have to pay for. You can pump all the money you want into the economy, the only thing it will accomplish is masking the problem, and make it worse in the long run.

You can talk till you are blue in the face but these Obama supports are blind. It reminds me of the pie piper, Obama is the pie piper giving all his hand outs, out to people. The rats are his followers following him of a cliff just looking for what they can get out of him, hand outs that benefit them.
- James C Webb Jr, Candidate for Ward 8 Alderman

On the question of racism:
If someone disagreed with Obama for *no other reason* than that he is black, that would be a racist attitude.
If someone disagrees with Obama for other reasons, such as his support for policies that will greatly increase the size and power of government, their disagreement is not based on racism.

Those who disagree with Obama's policies would also be (and are) vehement in their disapproval of Al Gore, John Kerry, and Nancy Pelosi.

The readiness of leftists to throw the 'racist' label around makes no sense at all. They beg the question by assuming that the policies advocated by 'their' president, Obama, are reasonable and good, and therefore any dissent *must* be based on racism. But whether his policies *are* in fact good is the very question we're debating!

Of course, this will be treated as noise by those whose primary debating tool is name-calling.
- Eric, Manchester, NH

Calling someone a racist these days is akin to saying something deragatory about one's mother. News flash - nobody cares! Seems to me the only racists here are the ones crying "racist". Those people are so hung up on skin color it amazes me.
- Tim K, Jaffrey

To Tom in Candia,

I did not attack you , I stated an observation. While you state I "rant" I say I was stating FACT. AS for RANTS, your quote "However, the US military budget far exceeds what is required
for the defense of the nation" appears to be a very good rant. Can you state facts for your statement?

AND PLEASE do not say I haven't done my part defending this country, I HAVE!
- Paul, Candia

That political party/racism thing is SO 2008! Trade your freedoms, your privacy and your prosperity for mere welfare programs subject to the whims of corrupt partisan hacks? "Those that would give up essential liberty for a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety."...Ben Franklin. Repeal the 111th congress and all their works!
- Mae, Plaistow

When are people going to realize that the Democrats and Republicans are two sides of a very dirty and tarnished coin.

It's time to clean House (and Senate!)
- Shawn, Milton

Greg, Manchester:
Money does not make good schools; Parents, teachers and students do that. If your logic were correct, DC schools would be the best in the country--and we all know that is not the case.

Ronald Reagan did a radio speech in 1961 "Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine" about the slow creep of socialism. His foresight was amazing! (You can hear it on youtube and it is worth a listen.)

I am grateful to those who took the time and went to DC to protest--not just the President, but the policies of all of those in Congress.
- Patricia, Raymond

Nearly everyone I know, from my 54 year old mom, my 20-something brother and sister, my girlfriend, most of my friends, many other small business owners I interact with, myself...none of us have health insurance and we work full time. It is out of our reach financially. Unless we want to give up eating or living in a house or driving a vehicle to work. Most of the people I know that do have some sort of coverage get it from government run programs like Medicaid, Medicare and the VA.

I got nothing from the TARP bailout of Wall St. I got nothing so far from the stimulus recovery act except a slightly smoother ride down RT 101. The tax break Obama promised...actually I pay a little more now in taxes, somewhow.

Affordable health care would be a big help to me. I'm not looking for FREE healthcare, simply affordable healthcare. I'm a 36 year old man, with no big health issues and they want at least $110 per week from me to cover just myself. And those coverages come with many restrictions about the care I may receive.

I don't mind waiting to see a doctor if there's an increase in demand. I've been waiting since 2001 when I lost my health insurance, so waiting a few weeks to see a doctor is a walk in the park, to me.

I had a tooth problem a year ago. I was to the point of being in the fetal position on the floor, I was in so much pain. I called around to many dentists and found it would be more than $600 to take out the tooth, and none would work with me on a payment plan. So, I was in that painful condition for months and it affected my ability to work and be a father. Luckily I found Dr Nate Swanson in Newmarket. He was so compassionate to my situation and got the tooth out for only $150. I was very lucky.
- DM, Hampton

Mike from Concord, et al;
blah, blah blah, blah blash blah blah. come up with something original and truthful. You make yourselves sound like total idiots.
- Allan, Rochester

Hey Greg. I never said anything about Obama's citizenship, religion,or terrorism. This was just your pathetic projection. You never refuted my assertion that he is a failing radical. Why? Because you can't. BTW, learn to spell president.
- R. Cassidy, Hudson

- Brad, Goffstown

The radical Left-Wing Obama & Van Jones worshipers should just admit the fact that they’re Neo-Communists. Why keep calling yourselves “liberal” in the first place – it’s a complete misnomer. A classical “liberal” was Thomas Jefferson – a small federal government Libertarian. The Democrats are not the party of Jefferson. Today’s example of a Classical Liberal would be Ron Paul. Today’s Democrats are Leftists – they are Statists that can be divided up into moderate Socialist-Progressives, Progressive-Statists / Globalists, and the radical Neo-Communist fractions, they are not Classical Liberals by any stretch of the imagination. The violent and thuggish Neo-Marxist movement on the far Left clearly dominates the Democratic Party. It has once again reared its head out of the bowels of Saul Alinsky’s “rules for radicals”. These Neo-Communist throw-backs to the 1960’s radical Left-Wing “revolution” movement have brought back home-grown anti-Americanism to a whole new level of tyranny on par with the terrorist tactics used by the Bolsheviks, Leninists, and Maoists regimes.

You cannot continue hiding your true colors when the majority of Americans can see through it and do not trust your President, your Party, its leadership, and your policies. Let’s do the math, it’s taken your President and Party less than 10 months to completely overreach and that fact is reflected in the Democrats steady plummet in the polls. Keep grasping for straws as you label everyone who believes in the wisdom of the Founding Fathers, the Constitution, our Republic form of self-government, and individual liberty as “racist right-wing extremists and Astroturf”. Talk about a fringe political movement; have you Marxistcrats taken a healthy look in the mirror? – You reject our sovereignty for global government, reject the Constitution for “collectivism”, and reject Capitalism for some kind of warped quasi Fascist / Marxist hybrid. Yes, continue to wear your anti-American Neo-Marxist badge with pride as you thump the words of the "chosen one" and George Sorros. America has already decided that you can keep your “change”.
- Mac Wade, Newmarket

Good question Brett...prepare for no legitimate answer. I'll take a stab at it. Bush was not the target of his own right-wing zealot types, of course. He was not the target of obstructionist politics fueled by hate and ignorance. Obama is a victim of winning the election...and very quickly has become responsible for all that ails or has ever ailed america. Most of these troglodytes have not even taken the time to read any of the proposals and are cheering for politicians who call the president a liar. "Mission accomplished" was a lie, WMD was a lie, but you could not call W out on that or you were un-american. There is nothing more un-american than a vocal minority standing in the way of health care reform that will help millions of americans. Look up the definition of option.
- Mike, Concord

Kathy, I have been asking that same question for weeks now and have NEVER gotten an answer that wasn't full of nonsense.
The only reason I can think of, is that's all they got to throw at us.
We don't agree, so we MUST hate him because he's black.
When you disagree with someone's god, they tend to get testy.
They all tend to forget that the dems had the majority rule in the government for a while now and did NOTHING. It is just easier for them to blame bush.
If the dems think obama is such a god, then why has nothing been passed yet? Could it be that there is a dem that doesn't like to spend? Oh wait, they call them DINO's and they MUST be racist too.
- Pauline, Franklin

Hey Brett, Manchester, I am not even going to address your asinine Bush hatespeach, as for 2 Million estimate, where did you hear that? I followed this very closely since day one and NEVER heard an estimate, and yes "tha (actually that would be the) crowd was an accurate cross section of America"? Not all sections of America. There were no racist, no close-minded bigots, no hate, in other words no progressive democrats. Plenty of democrats just not hatefilled close-minded bigots like your ilk. The "Million Man March" had roughly 150,000 to 200,000 people in attendance, even the government funded media at PMSNBC had to admit there were more than 1 million Americans at this protest, no organized thugs from the union dared to show up for this. Open your mind.
- Allan, Rochester

Reasonable GOP voters won't show up at polls to support Hitler sign carrying birthers crying socialism.

The Republicans better kick the koolaid and baloney addicts off of their bus before elections. No centrist wants to be associated with these fringe characters and LaRouche crowd.

What ever happened to reasonable Republicans? Dick Nixon proposed a version of national health care insurance with strict government audits and controls. It's not a socialist idea to secure our people's health when private industry is ripping us off. It's a democratic idea, and it's good for the country as a work force.
- J Johnson, Newbury

The administration that criticizes businesses that are "too big to fail" now wants to build a "too big to fail" government??? Bravo to the Patriots who are willing to go down to D.C. and protest an elitist government that no longer represents (and often ignores) the will of the people!!!
- Hedge, Newton

Ahh R. Cassidy from Hudson, you just used another right wing trick, use the Preisdent's middle name to make people think he is a terrorist, a Muslim, not born in America or all of the above. I have never heard anyone talk about, George Walker Bush, William Jefferson Clinton, George Herbert Walker Bush or Ronald Wilson Reagan, yet rightie wingnuts like to constantly refer to Barack Hussein Obama. Get over it, he is an American and he is not a terrorist, or related to Saddam in any way.
- Greg, Manchester

I have three questions:

1. Why no TEA parties when Bush accumulated 1.2 trill. of the current deficit on wild spending?

2. What happened to the projected 2 million crowd?

3. Are we really able to say tha crowd was an accurate cross section of America?
- Brett, Manchester

Live Free or Die...still has the ring of truth for many NH folk. Our thanks to those who went to the rally and expressed via the right of free speech and assembly what we feel about taxation without representation--about trying to force us into a national health care system that will put us further into debt, and that allows of the genocide fetuses. Canadians and Europeans and warning us not to go where they are with national health care, because their systems don't deliver as good and as speedy as care as our system currently does. The government does not provide sufficient necessary medical care for Veteran's--they have to refer them to private providers for rehabilitation, etc. We don't need health care, we need God fully front and center back in our nation and lives. It is our responsibility to not just vote out irreverent representatives, but start to efforts to impeach those representatives who are irresponsible and not fulfilling their Constitutional duties.
- Greg, Londonderry, NH

The blind Obama-followers will happily pay hundreds of billions of dollars and just go along with whatever the former, most-liberal junior senator happens to think is a great idea.

The rest of us are getting pretty ticked off and enough is enough. Go ahead, keep trying to minimize the numbers at protests, word will spread and they will keep growing.
- Matt F, Center Barnstead

Comparisons to Stalin and communism have been used to derail healthcare reform simce the early 1900's. Congratulations right wing zealots for unearthing such tried and true methods. After all, your motives are pure (if you are aware of any personal motives at all) and its not like you just want to make Obama fail because he won the election. I am sure the history books, those that you allow our children to read and do not burn, will treat you kindly.
- Mike, Concord

Well, let's check the board here - fruitcake, hater, loser, racist, clown. Yep - looks like the koolaid crowd is well prepared with some good persuasive arguments, maybe some logic here and there just for good measure.

Keep insulting all these new activists. That's sure to bring them to your side.
- Mark, Amherst

We are in a fiscal nightmare. The American Taxpayer can't keep up with the way Washington & Concord keep spending. When your out of $ you can't spend anymore. Get it? I was at the march in Manchester on Sunday. Alot of people who have never before protested anything were with me. You have to ask yourself how bad it must be for us to protest.
- Beth, Sutton

Hey Terry from Manchester

I am one of those people who our Congressman/women and Senator from NH
insulted.

At 62 I have lived a long business life. I can assure you that I have done more for Minorities and Women than any Community Organizer could possibly do.

Calling me(us) a Racist is so 70's and quite frankly out of date.

But then again you have no facts to support your position so must resort to that sort of thing.
- Bob, Salem

It's really sweet reading about all of these leftist complaining about this weekends rallies and last springs Tea party protest. Admit it you moonbats, your guy B.Hussein Obama is failing miserably on all levels. This eats you up and there is no credible way you can defend this "hope and change" radical. Be afraid in 2010,be very afraid.
- R. Cassidy, Hudson

Terry...I listened to the repaly of the "you lie" many times...there was never "boy" added to it
- Keb, Warner Robins

Mike in Temple, you ignoramus, there is no state-run media. That would mean the government OWNS the media companies, which they don't. If you want to call them biased liberal media fine, that is your opinion, but calling the media state-run just makes you look dumb.

It's people like you and the clown holding up the USSR sign that give your whole side of the aisle a bad rap.
- Greg, Manchester

We tend to forget that the Democrats are have been and always will be the racists. They forget that southern democrats were slave owners. They forget a republican president freed the slaves and a republican north fought to free them. They forget JFK wanted nothing to do with equal rights for blacks. They seek to turn the tables when history shows, democrats are the racists.
- Joe Doyle, Meredith

Kathi Picone, Fremont, NH --- You say, "Why is it that anyone that doesn't agree with President Obama's agenda is called a racist?"

Well Kathi because your logic: "...anyone that doesn't agree with President Obama's agenda is called a racist," is completely UNTRUE, your premise is untrue, so your comment is just a foolish koolaid trick question with no answer. Instead try asking why SOME of Obama's critics are called racist. It's because they are.

You can't possibly disagree that racists hate Obama without having been brought up in a protective bubble. AND we do not hear the likes of you pointing out the racists, because they do you no harm while doing the dirty work of the GOP. They add to the clamor. They disrupt and are beyond any convincing. They show up at rallies. Well in the end they will help bury the GOP for good.

So, you nice right wing folks call out the hate mongers and racists on your fringe so we don't have to, and so we don't make an inaccuracy. Thanks.
- Joel, Conway

Fox Noise carried this same story but sort of kind of just skipped over the Hitler signs, you lie signs, commie flags and other circus gear that the vocal minority clowns was having fun with at this get together for koolaid addicts. So I do appreciate this report.

It's like a watching a person hit themselves in the head while trying to convince you to join them. I wonder if these folks really think they can convince the nation to follow sheer lunacy when we have so many real issues to attend to.
- Talley, Nashua

To those stuck in the past:

Grow up, wake up and stop trying to get into the debate.

You can scream "where were you under Bush" all you want. I don't know why more weren't incensed under him. I know I wasn't because I was trying to stick to a party. I was trying to look at the good that could have come. I had blinders on. I won't be silent ever again. I will not think of party first ever again. I am voting for pro-liberty, pro-individual rights candidates who care for this nation and our roots.

You can choose to continue completely ignoring good questions. You can choose to continue ignoring that tugging feeling you may have in your gut that something is wrong. Keep on ignoring it and focus on the mistakes of the past 8 years. I choose instead to focus on where I can effect change: NOW and in the FUTURE.

If you think it is roses and peaches, then say so. Defend why we the people are wrong. Defend why the framers were wrong (read the constitution, read the journals from the convention, read the Federalist papers). Tell me why I am wrong. Let's have a dialogue and find where common ground may exist.

If you want to dwell on the past, whine and enjoy saying, "Told you so" while ignoring worse spending, a further stripping of individual rights then you are doing yourself and your nation a disservice.

Grow up and move your clocks ahead to now and talk about right now. We have been on a dangerous road for over 100 years. We are now driving there faster than we ever had....
- Mike Walsh, Milton, NH

Obviously, any protest that features a poster with "Which one did you vote for - US flag or Soviet flag" is made up of totally nuts and clueless individuals, who are totally afraid of their own shadows.

There's nothing to say about these wack-a-doodle-doos...they live in a world so far removed from the reality of 2009, that I'm not sure what country they actually want to see, or what the "finish line" of their protests would be.

Creationism the only accepted teachings in school? 50 different nations instead of one? A total ban on abortion - but of course zero funding to help poor mothers or families? No medicare, social security, or health care for soldiers (it's government funded, after all)?

These protestors represent the most scared bunch of rabbits this country has seen in quite some time.

They aren't racist. They hate everybody equally.
- NSR, Epping, NH

Kathi Picone, Fremont, NH

Maybe I can help you:
When the only logic behind put downs is that you do not like a man, one is forced to consider the nature of that dislike. Is that person have poor character? Is he a criminal, a thief?

Obama is sophisticated, smart, honest, superbly educated, he's even good looking. So why in fact might someone not "like" this man? Because he's a black person telling white people what to think maybe? It could very well be, as we do have that history in this country and it is certainly still very strong in areas like the bigot belt from Pennsylvania to Oklahoma. There, Hillary carried the primary, but Obama with the same policies was not supported. Any bells going off in your head?

The whole South went to arms after the Civil War to prevent freed blacks from holding office (there were more black elected to Congress right after the war than for 100 years after Jim Crow) and so we got Jim Crow laws designed to prevent them from being elected.

If this is news to you you need to read some history. Racism should not surprise anyone. Consider the analogy of antisemitism. If Obama were a Jew....
- Gail, Manchester

Dave, Manchester -

This is not a "blog" and so we are not "bloggers." This a comment board, where people enter short opinion comments on a written work or it's comments. A blog (weblog) is an ongoing written work of an individual writer, like a diary or journal or column, not a set of comments. I hope this helps.
- Lauren, Durham

Kathi Picone, Fremont, NH - Are you really asking why or is it just a figure of speech for you? When Wilson hollers "liar" you don't get a sense of South Carolina coming home to roost? You didn't read Maureen Dowd's column? Check the crowd at the goofball rally, all white.

Certainly there is no proof of racism, but how would we get proof? To me, when a sensible man telling the truth is shouted down there are reasons. YOU tell ME why!
- Edward Snowe, Manchester

Interesting, not a minority face in the crowd, in the pictures we are given. (Just an observation.)

These people are the last gasp of Bush voters. Ruin the country then go sloganeer your lies in Washington. Carry Hitler signs and make general fools of yourselves. Sad.
- Belle, Manchester

Why is it that anyone that doesn't agree with President Obama's agenda is called a racist? Why is the race card always used in response to citizens having the right to voice their first amendment rights? I don't agree with his policies - the amount of debt we are quickly accumulating or government controlling healthcare, however; I am not a racist and I am proud of our country for electing a black President.
- Kathi Picone, Fremont, NH

Paul/Candia:

Nice rant, Paul, your assumptions about me exemplify a large part of the problem.
Rather than focus on the issue, you jump to a number of assumptions about me,
throw in some irrelevant points, and then go on a personal attack.
Unfortunate mindset.

I have no problem with including the restriction that beneficiaries of health
care overhaul be citizens. The Heller amendment does not seem unreasonable.
OTOH, why is it so objectionable to err on the side of providing some poor
schmoo with undeserved health insurance? As opposed to being willing to spend
tens of thousands of dollars dropping a bomb on a wedding party somewhere?
Obviously, not all - maybe not even a majority - of these protesters hold these
conflicting views ... but it certainly seems that quite a few do. Difficult to
grasp.

I have no objection to *defense* spending. In point of fact, there is a reasonable
chance that I've done more in the defense of this nation than most readers of
this paper, including you. However, the US military budget far exceeds what is required
for the defense of the nation. So my statement stands ... a lot of people seem
to have no trouble at all with a virtually unlimited budget for US weapons of mass
destruction... but let someone suggest overhauling the health care system and a
lot of those same people go, er, ballistic ;)
- tom, Candia

Dave, Manchester - You pay taxes? Wow, don't break an arm patting yourself on the back!

The real question is, are you a VOTER, not are you a taxpayer. If tax paying were the criterion, then the super wealthy could just run everything. That's almost, but not quite true anyway!
- Ellen, Manchester

It's a sad thing to have to face, but the Obama naysayers are probably racists. Maureen Dowd fleshes out this theory in today's NYT.

As she notes, Joe Wilson didn't really say, "You lie." He said, "You lie, boy."

Great column:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/13/opinion/13dowd.html?_r=1
- Terry, Manchester

I would love to know how many of you bloggers are property tax payers or even Federal Tax payers. Yep, I bet it's Sunday everyday for many of you. By the way, I have a right to say this because I am both.
- Dave, Manchester

You never print what I write, so forget your paper, too.

*** Editor's note: Yes, we do. Remember to hit F5 or CTRL/REFRESH if posts aren't appearing. ***
- Jeff Lessard, Manchester

Rebels without a cause is right! (Thanks to Tom Labrie.) The gathering of the paranoid and unrealistic neurotics, but as a political movement! Who cares what terms like "socialist" really mean! We can use words as we wish for any reason that makes us feel better! Yahooooo!

It is a wonder people let themselves become tools of the fringe right. Thank heavens we have a democracy where the crazies get outvoted.
- Linda Stein, Concord

If you a a Racists, a Nazis or a Radical right wingNUt this presidency certainly is your worst nightmare. If you really cared about spending you would have stood up against a senseless war in Iraq that spent a trillion dollars and killed or disfigured tens of thousands. However, this is the greatest country in the world and just wars have been fought so everyone may express their opinion freely, even if as Barney Frank said "On what planet do you spend most of your time?"
- Greg Barrett, Manchester

J, Manchester

Oh we hear you, and your hypocrisy is sounding through loud and clear. We will pay you as much heed as you paid us for eight years. Your numbers are no more than they have ever been or ever will be, you’re simply making more noise in one place. Riddled amongst the lobbyists, Insurance Company shills, bussed in and paid protesters are the birthers, Palinites and whacky followers of Rush, Beck, and Coulter.

Scream all you want, keep acting like lunatics, you will not prevail for over the din of lies, deceit, spin, false accusations and in general insane notions the air of common sense and reason still exists. Truth will always rise above deceit and no matter how loud you yell you cannot silence it.
- Jim, Raymond NH

To Tom in Candia,

Tom, I would spend money on defense any day before throwing money away on a socialst healthcare farce. Tom, please do your research, the REAL number of uninsured is between 10-12M not 47M your emperor claims! Since you evidently are a democrat? Can you explain why no major AMERICAN news outlet besides Fox mentioned the rally in DC? Or better yet why they didn't report on ACORN or Van Jones? Also why have the democrats/socialists voted for the amendments the GOP has submitted several times that anyone taking advantage of this healthcare service has to prove they are here LEGALLY? They have voted it DOWN every time. Finally do you actually believe, as your emperor stated yesterday, that 50% of AMERICANS will loose healthcare insurance if HIS bill isn't passed ( sounds like scare tactics to me). BTW he did also mention he is taking control of this bill. Talks wonder of our elected officials eh? HMMM seems to me that you like socialism and with perhaps you should consider moving to a socialst country then come back and talk from a point of knowledge rather than emotion!
- Paul, Candia

Steve B, Derry- HAH, nice line.

Did you realize that when the NH delegation left the state and reached the rally in DC, that the average IQ at both locations increased?
- brian, gorham

"We are not a silent majority anymore..."

Welllll, apparently you are not a majority, or there would not be a Democrat in the White House, and a 60 in the Senate, and a mjority in the House of Reps.

And from what I have seen of town hall meetings and and fox news, you are definitely not silent.
- Pete, Randolph

are you aware that the ratio of insurance lobbiest to congressmen 5 to 1 for insurance lobbiest.15 years ago these people started a campaign of media lies and scare tactics.we fell for them.no new health debate.the major problem i see is lobbying.it is nothing but legal bribery.think about it.they should be thromn out of washington.
- maddy parsons, rochester

Fascinating story.
First, that a lot of the same people who thoroughly support virtually unlimited
spending on weapons of mass destruction - for example the jet fighter contract
award touted on today's front page - are so unwilling to spend anything extra on
health care for themselves and their fellow Americans. Apparently, for a lot of
folks it's ok to blow up (your_favorite_foreigner_here), but God forbid we make
health insurance affordable for our neighbors.

The second fascinating thing is how much better a job the media is doing
covering the health care and tea bagger events than they ever did with the
massive demonstrations against Bush's wars. Why do you suppose that is?
- tom, candia

Well there you go, the GOP koolaid addicts disqualify themselves from serious participation in any debate by displaying their Hitler signs and other over-the-top baloney.

I'd actually like the conservatives to get a say in the national debate. We need the balancing they offer. But for some reason they always allow their fringe right wing koolaid addicts to suck all the air out of the room. Do they realize the damage these nuts do to the good old GOP?

We've always had every sort of view here in the USA, so the GOP fringe is nothing new. Letting a fringe element control the presentation for the centrists is new, and completely unfortunate. I'll be interested to see which GOP candidates in 2010 allow themselves to be associated with people who carry Hitler signs. Talk about tar babies!
- Roger, Rochester

Glad to see the good turnout in DC. I had hoped the UL would have written something up on the brave folks (over 300) who weathered the rain in Manchester yesterday as well. These people did a fine job and showed that good Americans will always come together to fight gov't tyranny!
- Hank, Bedford

I know you haters have got your heads burried deep, but do you have an alternative to any of the things you oppose? On healthcare, for example, do you really think the current system is the best we can do? Have any of you noticed what the stock market has done over the last 6 months?
- Fred, Amherst

yes as far as the government is concerned it has to be cleaned up ive been saying this for years now and other people are just realizing it well its about time people started to wake up but things have gotten a lot worse since these thoughts entered my mind and now im saying i was not one of those that voted for obama and neither did any of my family and we are proud that we werent one of those that asked for all this trouble thats running this country into the ground so lets take obama out of this country now before he does more damage thank you bob roberts
- robert a roberts, berlin n. h.

The House this week will take up a motion to censure Rep. Joe Wilson. Six months of a health-care debate in which the only thing the left can say about the bill is that the right is being uncivil. And thank goodness it is! The underlying question this week during the censure debate will change from the contents and effect of HB 3200, to whether or not Obama is a liar. Obama's decision to IGNORE the feedback of the August constituent meetings and bull onward was fateful. His "political capital" is now gone until the 2010 elections.
- Spike, Brentwood NH

I wish I knew that there was going to be a protest in Washington because I would of gone to. I'm tired of the taxes going up and seeing less services for my tax dollars. I also do not support Obama's health care plan, I am an unemployed worker and I do not have insurance. I would rather not have insurance, especially if its Obama's health plan. Obama's health plan will raise taxes for every one, the health plan will most likely cover illegal aliens. The rich wont pay the taxes on this health plan, the poor/ well-fare recipient will get free health care through Obama's plan, and the middle class will pay for it.
- James C Webb Jr, Candidate for Ward 8 Alderman

Judging by the idiotic poster being held up with a Soviet flag, it looks like a pack of koolaid addicted fools.

How in heaven could you possibly so poorly educated as to associate the Soviet Union with anything going on here?

Do these losers understand that Bush handed Obama the deficit? Do these losers understand that our current health care system is MORE EXPENSIVE than Obama's plan? Do these losers understand Obama's team just prevented a deep depression?

Were these simpletons out there protesting a wrongheaded war that was put on the deficit while a tax break was given to the hedge fund managers who wrecked our economy? No? Oh right, I forgot, for GOP koolaid addicts facts don't matter and history didn't happen. Talk about rebels without a cause!
- Tom Labrie, Rochester

These protesters do not know their history. They forget that the deficits started when Bush was president - I didn't hear them protesting then. They also forget that government subsidies started under Bush - in fact Paulson, Bush's Sec. of Treasury, wanted to give the financial industries more money than they received. They also forget that we already have government run health care - it's called Medicare. While Medicare could be improved, it's doing a decent job.

I agree with the protesters when they say they fear big government, but they forget that big business is just as evil and should also be feared.

As for J's comment about the "swamp," he forgets that this started decades ago, under both Republican and Democratic administrations.
- Putney, Manchester

J.,

You're aware that there is nothing "grassroot" about these and they are funded by lobbying groups, right? Keep doing their bidding Lemmings.
- Jim Wilson, Manchester

Ms. Shea-Porter,

Do you see, read and hear?? So perhaps if you actually
* read the bills you vote for,
*hold meetings with your CONSTIUTUENTS and LISTEN and not democratic party members you would see the emperor has no clothes.
* believe OBAMA when he states 50% of Americans will loose their healthcare??
(scare tactic eh?)

ALL politicians are exposed! The days of believing and acting as if you all were above the people are over. Please respond here since you haven't answered any of the specific questions I have sent you via your web site!
- Paul, Candia

I was there. I marched with them under our state flag and our American flag.

The number is likely more than tens of thousands. No matter the count though, folks were united for Freedom, Liberty, Individual Responsibility and Rights. Yes there was anger but that anger was directed at those in both major parties. That anger was really more a passion for what America stands for and what we were founded on.

These people were great. The vast majority of the signs were not like those depicted in the mainstream press. The people were polite to each other, to law enforcement (I have heard it rumored that there was not a single arrest.. I certainly didn't see any from my view).

We love this country and for many like myself, we are finally awake at a problem that has been brewing for a century. It took the speed of bills this year to wake us up.
- Mike Walsh, Milton, NH

I love the sign "Which one did you vote for" with the USSR flag on it. Last time I checked, voting for communism wasn't an option, and by the way, hardcore righties, Obama is NOT bringing Socialism in. You wouldn't know Socialism if it bit you in the you know where.

NH with no sales or income tax works...right...that's why we have some excellent schools and some crappy schools, based on how valuable property is in the town you happen to live in. And that is why we get nickel-and-dimed on every fee we have. There is one solution...gambling...but those on the right, who claim to be hands-off, want to deny people the right to spend their money in a VOLUNTARY activity on moral and religious grounds. Quit trying to tell the rest of us "heathens" how to live our lives while you preach the government should butt out of everything.
- Greg, Manchester

This is your brain on Fox News.

Bush's pointless $3 trillion war elicited nary a peep out of these fruitcakes.
- Jack, Franconia

Proud of our people here...maybe in time the newer transplants will come to see less government, less taxes, less bureaucracy is so much better...self reliance restores dignity and self worth...we extend helping hands without fuss and fanfare wherever needed...we, the people, not big goverment..
- sandy, alton

Hey J. from Manchester, yes we can hear you, and it's the best entertainment we've had all summer. The real world is laughing at you.
- Bill, Londonderry

The UL buys into the rest of the MSM's take on the march. The purpose was NOT just anti-tax. Just the quotes in this article represent that. But, as it usually goes, those opposing such a march, rally or group will minimize it the best they can. At least the UL is reporting the march since notables like the NY Times and Washington Post didn't.
- R, Raymond

I've also seen that ABC News - the Obama Regime's lapdog of choice - is intentionally reporting that about 60,000 people showed up for this event. Other, more reputable sources of news both domestic and foreign are saying the number is around or over 1 million. Looking at the pictures, it's clear to see that ABC is full of the same manure they usually like to pass of as "news."

They also have reported that the Obama Regime was "unaware of the event" which is a complete and utter lie. Whenever something this large is planned in advance, White House security knows about it. Tactics like these are used by socialist regimes around the world to downplay opposition to their rotten ideology.

Obama - you lie!
- Mike, Temple

Nice signs. I hear there were 20,000 or more folks. They could call it the million IQ march.
- Steve B, Derry

This congress isn't listening to anybody that doesn't share their worldview. Somehow they think they are invincible. Carol Shea Porter is one of those people. There is going to be a point where the protests end and the organizing begins.
- Chris, Merrimack

It may be Obama's plan but Congress passes the laws.

Congress is not affected by any laws they pass.

It is congress that is spending the money and making the laws.

But it is "WE THE PEOPLE" who are to blame. All of us who elected the liberal tax and spend type.

Only WE can stop it by demanding tax cuts and getting the government out of the auto industry, banking industry, and health care.

Private enterprise and tax cuts. Compare this to the Reagan era.

Folks we elected these people and we can replace them. But will we???
- John, Warner

I look forward to reading the attacks on these peaceful protestors by the kool aid crowd on this message board. What you are seeing is the new wave of common sense conservative voters making their voices heard. This is no astroturf. This is real. This isn't a political party driven movement but next fall there will be a slate of candidates for these folks to choose from. Which party is closer to the small government, individual liberty positions held by all these new activists?

The salad days for Democrats are over. You had your fun. Now it's time for real change.
- Mark, Amherst

It's funny how the state-run media is treating this rally. Most are not reporting on it at all. The few reports I saw were downplaying the numbers of people and pulling the usual stunts of demeaning those who disagree with the socialist in the White House. When liberals hold rallies the state-run media likes to tell us how "the people are rising up and expressing their anger" but when conservatives, independents and plain ol' normal Americans rally as what happened yesterday, it's "an angry mob" or at the very least they just use the word "anti-" as it carries negative connotations. For example, this can always be found in a state-run story about pro-lifers. Thanks UL for not following the state-run media's example, and for joining the new media in reporting on this wonderful event filled with people from all sides who are angry at the Obama Regime and the pathetic liberal Congress for attempting to usurp our Constitutional Republic and turn it into an unrecognizable socialist mess. I've never seen so many Gadsden flags in one place in my life. I'm sure that Pelosi will just call us all Nazi's, showing her ignorance once again of world history as the word Nazi stands for National SOCIALIST German Workers' Party. Who are the real Nazi's here, Nancy? You, Obama, Reid and your ilk. Here's to 2012 - end of an error.
- Mike, Temple

Is President Obama & Democrats going to call them out too? You know he will just downplay the whole thing.
- Dave, Manchester

I have good news for these idiots. Put up a viable candidate next time and maybe your voices will be heard. Until then you can only watch as President Obama cleans the cesspool left behind by the last idiot in the White house.
- Jake, Manchester

I have heard very little, if anything, from mainstream liberal biased media on this event.

Thanks UL for running a story on it. My prediction is, it will be dismissed as a white, minority, disgruntled group of racist who organized and participated in yesterdays protest.
- Harry, Atkinson

Term limits is the only solution. People can't help themselves but vote back in the same old people year after year. Then maybe they would get some things done and not be so swayed by special interest groups.

Health care does need reforming though. Does everyone realize how much they overcharge us? We do have the best health care in the world but it can be better.
- Brian, Manchester,NH

Hey Hardcore Lefties, CAN YOU HEAR US NOW! Keep trying to shove things down our throats and our numbers will grow exponentially! Grass root will become brush fires and then firestorms. We are independent thinkers of all party affiliations and have had enough. WE THE PEOPLE WILL TAKE OUR GOVERNMENT BACK. I say vote out all incumbents, time for term limits. DRAIN THE SWAMP AND START OVER!
