Three boys are lucky to be alive. Their speeding red Toyota Corolla went off Beede Hill Road last night. It landed on its side between trees.
The teens managed to climb out of the wreckage with no serious injuries.

i know the driver, and what type of kid he is, hes deffinitly always been the responsible type of kid, never into trouble, the boys are very lucky to be alive, i just found out and i was shocked to hear what happened directly from the driver, i think him getting hurt is enough consiquince for him.

Chris from Keene, just wondering... Do you goose step and drive at the same time?
- Bill, Danville
Accidents, and the resulting costs, are charged back to the town where the vehicle is registered and affect the insurance rates in that town. I don't want to pay higher insurance rates because some lame brain felt his personal liberties were being trampled on by a mandatory seat belt law. I favor a mandatory seat belt law for New Hampshire. Those who oppose it may call it another act of a nanny state. Well maybe they need a nanny to care for them since they don't have the common sense to do it for themselves.
- Brian, Farmington
I was at the scene waiting on the road to go around them (we were turned around). Teens and this road don't mix well if they are going to drive carelessly. It's not the roads fault, the state's fault or anyone else's fault EXCEPT THE DRIVERS! If you obey the speed limit or are close to it you will be fine. It is a dark, curvy road and you shouldnt speed on it especially at night case closed.
- smddec, fremont nh
God spared these kids. Inanimate objects or new laws cannot do that. People die every day with seatbelts and airbags engaged. Nanny government did not save these kids.

The absolute nerve of some people to come into this and suggest punishment for an accident. I hardly see what lesson there in to learn out of this. I believe it is true that people should learn from their mistakes, but an accident and a mistake are not one in the same.
Next time you get into an accident through no fault of your own, lets see if some jail time will make you learn your lesson.
- Joey, Stratham
Pauline and anyone else wanting to raise the driving age to 18, it is not only 16 year olds that may not drive responsibly. I drive 101 to the seacoast everyday. Everyday, there is at least 1 middle aged drive weaving in and out of traffic going at least 80 MPH.
In fact the other day a truck with a 'House' license plate was doing that and almost caused two accidents that I saw until he was too far ahead to see.
At least the other drivers were paying attention.
- Greg, Manchester
Anthony from Derry, the car landed on its' side. The seatbelt held eveyone in their seats. Anyone not wearing a seatbelt would not have been held into their seat and possibly thrown from the vehicle. More then 90% of people thrown from a vehicle during an accident die. Look it up.
Zizzy from Manch, I suppose you've never been in an accident, huh? According to your post, anyone that HAS been in an accidnet should never be able to drive again, right?
Chris from Keene, where do I begin??? Criminal charges and jail for an accident? OK, talk about extreme. Are you saying that you've never driven a motor vehicle above the posted limit? Never rolled through a stop sign? Never nailed the gas to make it through a yellow light? Followed to close? Failed to yield? Used your phone or played with the radio becoming distracted?Come on now, lets not be a hypocrite. If we put your law into action, you'd be in jail for quite a while like the rest of us.
And personally when it comes to seatbelts, I don't believe in the Gov't making anyone wear one, it should be a personal choice. I just can't imagine why anyone would not wear one.
- Bob Watson, Manchester
I did not say anyone was under the influence.
The article said he lost control of the vehicle, due to "speed", which in my view indicates reckless driving. He was driving to fast to be able to control the vehicle.
No different then being too drunk to control a vehicle, or too distracted to control a vehicle.
People's lives are on the line when you are behind the wheel, and to the extent that you do not take that seriously then yes, I think your actions are criminal.
For some reason people seem to draw this line that says as long as you are sober it is an "accident" Wrong!
If you are not able to reliably control the speed of your vehicle, then you should not have a drivers license.
Thank god that IN SPITE of this drivers irresponsible actions, no one was killed.
- Chris, Keene
Bill from Tuftonboro: next time I see a news story saying that eating more fruits and vegetables can save your life, I suppose you'll be advocating for government-mandated diets too?
I wear my seat belt, but just because it's a good idea doesn't mean that government should mandate it. Far more people die from preventable heart disease than disuse of seat belts; if you want to push a freedom-hating measure that would "save lives" push a measure to regulate people's diets before you push you Massachusetts-style seat belt law.
Here's a notion: my life is not your business, Bill.
Live free or die. Death is not the worst of evils.

Chris in Keene. Are you serious dude. Loss of driving privlages for several years for an accident. Man if we could only all be as perfect as you. Im curious if you where the one that got into a legitimate accident, would you still be for such severe penalies towards your self???? I'm going to guess NO on that one.
- sean, derry
The witness from Fremont made a very good point, Beede Hill Road is a dangerous road! Dark in many sections, and very curvy with blind spots. This is also a residential road, though most that travel on it do not drive as if it is. Though speed may or may not have been a factor in this accident, people traveling Beede Hill often exceed the posted speed limits. Or drive in a manner not suitable for this type of road.
Regardless of what the Town of Fremont may or may not say this road is not under control, people come off 101 or 107 and drive as if they are still on one of those main routes. The police/town need to monitor this road better and make it publicly known that speeding will not be tolerated. Hence if needed give out more tickets/warnings. Perhaps this will educate people and decrease the chances of future accidents.
Thank god these 3 boys are ok and this accident did not end as the other Beede Hill Road one did last year!
- Fremont Resident, Fremont
These kids, like many have said, were not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol or speeding. It was just an accident. It happens. I think comments saying to change the driving age to 18 are, simply put, stupid.
- Will, Fremont
To Anthony in Derry, nowadays cars have side impact and side curtain airbags in the backseat as well as the front. Our car, an 05 Accord, has these features, one of the reasons we got it. I won't comment on the seatbelt law, but I wonder why more people don't wear them. Every time I read about someone dying in an accident they were ejected from the vehicle, something that wouldn't have happened if they were belted in. That would surely have happened in this case.
- Melinda, Bedford
they were not under the influence CHRIS KEENE. i should know i was with my brother 10 mins before this happend and he was the one in the passenger seat.
- brittany, fremont nh
Let this be a lesson to all the kids around them. Use this as a tool to teach the kids. What is wrong? Punishment is not the answer. To the punk Chris from Keene, if you would only know what good can come from this for his fellow friends, then maybe you won't so quick to be so stupid w/your comments. Make and keep the kids safe and god bless this kids life.
- Edward Keenan, Beverly,Ma
Operating a motor vehicle within the limits of the driver and the road would have done alot more to save these three teens injury then seatbelts and airbags, no?
If you can not control your car, you have no business sharing the road with people who can.
- Zizzy, Manchester
Chris,
I pray you are never in a position of judicial power.
Criminal charges and prision for an ACCIDENT?
Get a grip.
- Craig, Manchester, NH
First off those kids were not driking or under the influence of anything. yea they were most likely speeding but i can say they weren't driving under the influence. i'm 20 and the sister of the kid in the passenger seat. so before you write things of that nature and of that sort without knowing these kids you really shouldn't be sayng anything and accusing them of things. my brother has never been in trouble and is not the irresponsible type. so before you place judgements/ comments on people, maybe you should know the people your talking about. atleast they are allive!
- Brittany, fremont
I will say it again:
Criminal charges, license suspension, and a few days in jail for this kid.
We don't need more saftey rules, just consequences for irresponsible driving.
Reckless driving (speeding, texting, etc.) is just as dangerous as drunk driving, which carries all the penalties listed above. Why not have similar consequences if it works for DWI?
Maybe if a driver knows there will be consequences if they drive irresponsibly and screw up, then perhaps they will use some more care and caution and keep everyone safe.
- Chris, Keene
I have been friends with those kids for a few years and there is no doubt in my mind that seat belts saved their lives. This is a lesson to me, and should be to everyone else that being safe in a car is of vital importance.
I thank God my friends are okay.
- Kyle, Fremont
I was a witness to this accident. They were not reckless and speed was not a factor. These boys were not drinking or under the influence of drugs. I was there. I held these kids in my arms.
This is a dangerous road. They hit the low shoulder and overcompensated. This happens to adults everyday. It was just an accident.
That previous accident involved drinking and EXCESSIVE speed. That accident was 4 houses away from this one (which happened in my front yard).
- Witness, Fremont
How does anyone know if the seat belts and sirbags really did save these kids? I assume the one sitting in the back seat did not have an airbag so was it just the seat belt or some how the airbag in the front save hime to? What about the safety glass, the break aways and frame thats designed to crush so the passengers don't, where is the credit to that stuff??????? This seems like we're getting ready for another round of seat belt talks here in the great state(well used to be the great state)
- Anthony, Derry
Two of those kids are my bestfriends. They are very lucky to be alive.
- Joe pailes, fremont nh
I think they shouldn't be allowed to drive ALONE until at least 18.
If they were authorized to drive with a parent or guardian from the age of 15 1/2 like they are now; with it all documented and then have to attend actual drivers ed (including defensive driving etc etc) for an entire year before they are able to apply for their license at age 18, things like this would be prevented.
Sure it would cost more, and sure it would be more stressful for parents but I personally would rather stress than having to bury my child or someone elses becasue of my childs lack of judgement and education.
- Frank, Manchester
I cringe at the idea of a mandatory seatbelt law for all. I'm over 21 and I feel that it is my right to not wear a seatbelt if I don't want to. To me, this would be equivalent to making it mandatory for anyone walking along a road, any time of day, to be wearing reflective attire.
This is New Hampshire, we don't need our politicians telling us what we can and can't do. If you don't put on your seatbelt you're only hurting yourself. It's my choice, don't make it for me.
- RCote, Peterborough
Raise the driving age to 18 NOW!
At 16, kids have very few things they can legally do. There is a reason for that. They don't know enough!
I don't care how "responsible" or "mature" you think your kid is, this can happen to your kid.
Sure, it can happen when they are 18 as well, (less likely) but at least then, you wouldn't lose everything you own when your kid gets sued for doing something stupid.
And I can just hear all the drivers ed teachers crying how this would put them out of business. Obviously this kid had drivers ed and look what he STILL did!
They only teach your kid to pass the test anyway. They do not teach anything else, regardless of what they say.
- Pauline, Franklin
'Seatbelts and airbags' save three teens.
Just don't tell that to the wingnuts that are against mandatory seatbelt use in New Hampshire.
Live Free or Die?
- Bill, Tuftonboro
I pray that some criminal charges come out of this to teach kids a lesson, perhaps a little jail time and certainly a lose of driving privlages for several years.
Reckless driving such as speeding and DWI cannot be tolerated, they are all lucky to be alive. Remember those kids that were speeding and crashed earlier this year, which resulted in two fatalities.
