Just two more right wing nutcases. Put them in jail and throw away the key!
- LJC, Manchester

They may have been well with in their right not paying their taxes, but as soon as they armed them self's with explosives, automatic weapons, and armor piercing rounds they became a threat to the citizens of their town and government officials. Currently there is no law on the books that say you have to pay your taxes, but if you don't pay the odds are a judge will find you guilty.

I can under stand why they may not of wanted to pay there taxes. They probably were not happy with the way our elected officials are running the government. There are other ways to fix that problem, not paying your taxes doesn't fix anything it just makes the problem bigger. Instead of not paying your taxes make your vote count when you vote for elected officials.

We need people who are going to give back power to the people instead of the government.

I may not be happy with the way the elected officials are running the country. But instead of not paying my taxes I am going to run for a political office.
- James Webb Jr, Manchester

Lets see now- they feared they would be killed is the defense - but the police let people in that brought them food, guns, bomb making materials for months. Then they came out on the porch with pizza and beers the day they were arrested, they sure sound afraid of being killed. It took the police a week to empty the house but the college educated woman did not know any weapons were there (except the gun she was carrying when arrested). If these people felt they had a case then they should have gone to court - every knows you can tie the courts up for years, they would have been free while they fought it. Not these people - the world revolves around them and it is everyone else's problem to show why they should have to do anything they don't want to. If not already done, sell the house and everything they have/had to pay all the costs.

The Browns are going to spend their retirement years in a nice padded cell.
Free room and board and clothing.

Great!

I'll be spending my retirement on a cruise, cause I pay my taxes and fare share!
- Sarah Masters, Manchester

The wondrous thing about the Browns is that they might have actually imagined they were going to be let off the hook somehow, be it a national uprising or divine intervention. Did I really see a guard tower at their home? It is rare to see two utter whackos in one case of violent disobedience, but there you go. If there is one thing the Feds take exception to it's someone threatening their people with guns. Think Randy Weaver. (Yes he won some cash, but his wife is dead.)
- Troy, Manchester

To think these dirtbags were not paying taxes while our country was at war makes me sick. The should be tried for treason as far as im concerned. I hope they make lots of "friends" in jail.- Don, Manchester
-And we look at you as a dirt bag for paying taxes to fund an illegal war. So therefore, since you helped fund it you should be tried in the Hague. So now what?
- Greg Harris, manchester

Send these two to jail and celebrate a kiddie diddler Michael Jackson......

Two bad Janet Reno and slick willie weren't still in charge. They could have just offed these people in their own homes. No questions asked.
- Dana, Kingston, Nh

2 things in life will occur.

Death and TAXES!!

The Browns stand no chance of getting away with this
- Harry, Atkinson

Sylvia I am sure that they have no money now that they are caught. I am sure anything that they had was seized since they owed so much taxes. Just think if they had just paid they would be enjoying their retirement haha. Idiots
- Kristy, Manchester

For all of those who support the Browns, please read the Constitution. Article 1 states "Congress has the power to lay and collect taxes." Doesn't get much simpler than that.
- Brian, Manchester

Ed & Elaine are modern patriots. While we sit behind our computers and televisions, drinking our beers and watching the game, they were asking questions and demanding answers. They were asserting their rights and defending the rights of every American. They are not the enemy. I hope they will find justice.
- Joseph, Mishawaka, Indiana

Jake, you missed the point of Judy!!!
She's simply stating how majority of Obama's cabinet HAVE hundreds of thousands of unpaid taxes, and where are they.....relaxing in DC, not in a jail cell like the Brown's. Mybe you should spare us your ignorance.
- Heather, Barnstead

What they did is they didn't pay there taxes. TAXES THAT EVERYONE HERE ON OTHER PAGES IS COMPLAINING ABOUT!!! They were trying to take a stand and we should have as citizens stood by them. No way they can arrest everyone. We are the people who pay taxes who make things right. Really people should stick together and make this world better. People our becoming homeless while the goverment is making money. Lynch buys a nice huge house while more and more people our loosing their homes. Doesn't this seem odd to anybody?
- Sara, Manchester, NH

Funny, all they did was ask the government to prove they needed to pay personal (not corporate) income taxes. If they government had produced the law stating that personal (not corporate) income tax is legally required they'd have written a check on the spot. The goverment, unable to produce the document has bullied and terrorized these citizens. What has happened to our government, it's no longer a government which fears the people, rather the people fear the government.
- mark, hooksett

What would THIS gov. of today have done to the members of "The Boston Tea Party"
One could only ponder, on Big Brother.
- Ray, Manchester

Prosecutors often exaggerate and make up accusations to help their case because often the defense has no way to prove that the accusation is false. I find it very hard to believe that the jelly cupboard was booby-trapped. It makes no sense. While the Browns were obviously scared of the feds, I've seen no indication that they wanted to initiate violence against anyone. Think to yourself, why would someone booby-trap a jelly cupboard but not the driveway or an entrance to the house? I don't believe that the Browns wanted any violence or death. They wanted to be left alone. They didn't go after the feds. The feds went after them. Of course the feds want to be seen as heroes, which is why they vilify their targets. Don't believe everything you read or hear. If you watch the movie 'America, Freedom to Fascism', you will understand why the Browns believed some of the things they did.

Sylvia from Peterborough, she couldn't afford an attorney because early on the feds seized their bank accounts and her business. Then after they were captured, the feds seized all of their property, sold some of it, and kept the money, leaving the Browns with no money with which to pay a lawyer.
- Pat, Concord

How about when all the wealthy people tire of their wealth being confiscated for ever increasing "entitlements" and they decide to relocate, much like our manufacturing base, to a non-socialist country?
A reasonable question seeking a reasonable response.
And if such scenario occurs, who is next on the list of confiscatees?
Descriptive of California. Yes? No?
- Michael, Manchester

Scott in Chichester,

It's God's green earth. Please show some respect.
- Jen, Chichester

@scott in chichester
Lots of people have jelly cupboards - they are a classic country cabinet style. Almost no one keeps jelly in them anymore, though. And even fewer keep IEDs in them! (See http://images.google.com/images?q=jelly%20cupboard&rls=com.microsoft:*&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi)

Judy

When those people were caught, they had to pay what they owed. Most people pay their backed taxes instead of hiding in the woods, playing pin the tail on the redneck.

Nice try to attack the Obama administration. Everyone who was mentioned for taxes and private interest stepped aside and paid what they owed. These people decided to horde weapons and threaten government employees. Your rant makes as much sense as Snoopy trying to explain Social Security
- Josh, Manchester, NH

a jelly cupboard? who, on gods green earth, STILL has a "jelly" cupboard????
- scott, chichester

Judy,
How about taking hard earned money to make a detour into a country which had nothing to do with the attack of 9/11 in lieu of pursuing the person responsible? Many US citizens were tired of that, too.
- Texter, Newfields

She was a dentist, but can't afford an attorney?
- Sylvia, Peterborough

Sorry Judy,
I dont think anyone in Obamas cabinet holed up in a house and made threats to our fine police. Nevermind that this all went on while w was in office. Spare us the paranoia. The Browns are mentally ill, as are the people who agree with them. I'm sick that my tax dollars are wasted putting these scum on trial. Throw away the key (you know they will "snicker").
- Jake, Manchester

And then the "other" tax evaders are serving in Prez Obama's cabinet. Just goes to show it's not what you know, it's who you know. Had the Browns been in politics, they would be serving in a cushy job instead of prison. Go figure!

While I don't agree with their tactics, etc., I think many US citizens are getting tired of the current administration's policy in taking more of our hard earned money to support very suspect causes like global warming and rewarding failures with bailout money. Don't get me started on expanded retroactive welfare benefits for illegals. Vote every Dem out of office at the next election or join ACORN for the handouts you'll need to survive.
- judy, bradford

Does Mr. Lange really believe that she was unaware of weaponry on the property? Her jelly cupboard was rigged and her husband didn't warn her, so she wouldn't be blown to smithereens? How dumb does he think a jury is? If he's going to put up a defense, he should start with a believable one.
