LETTERS POLICY

The New Hampshire Union Leader publishes more letters than any other newspaper we know. The standards for those letters were last revised in June 2008.

You may e-mail a letter to letters@unionleader.com. Please do not send separate attachments, but include your message in the body of the e-mail window. We do not guarantee that out-of-state e-mail letters will be published.

We ask letter writers to observe these rules:

  • Letters must be 200 words or fewer, and be addressed to the Publisher or Editor. Longer letters will be edited or rejected.

  • No more than one letter every month per writer.

  • Anonymous letters are not accepted.

  • For verification, letters must include the writer's name, full address and daytime phone. Names and home towns will always be printed. Published letters from Manchester and Nashua will include street addresses.

  • Form letters or post cards will not be accepted. We are interested in your opinion, not that of another.

  • Letters critical of another's religion, blasphemous, obscene, legally objectionable or commercial in nature will not be published. Religious letters will be used occasionally. Due to space restrictions, we cannot publish all letters received from prisoners.

  • Some of the best comments sent to UnionLeader.com will be printed as letters.

  • Our mailing address: The Union Leader, Attn.: Letters Editor, P.O.Box 9555, Manchester, NH 03108-9555.
