If you follow the NH Underground web site, there has been at least one incident of a Free Stater brandishing a firearm in the last few months.
At least one person who passed the background checks and did not have mental health issues was refused a Pistol Permit and the case was upheld by the State Supreme Court.
I support the right to keep and bear arms, to open carry, and to carry concealed, but there are a lot of people out there who you have to wonder about. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should, and if we lose our gun rights, it wont be because of any anti gun group, it will be because of legal citizens exercising their rights instead of their common sense.

Adam F., Merrimack,
You sm to have it out for freestaters. Can you provide on time, a single incident where a freestater has fired a gun in the air or other misused a firearm?
I am not (yet) a freestater, but often carry my gun on my waist. Few pople even notice it. Many like yourself are unaware that this great state of NH respects indivudual choices and the right to carry in the open is part of our state law. We are also a right to carry concealed state. Any resident without a felony or adjudicated mental health issue can obtain a concealed carry permit from their local police office. Responsibility comes down to personal accountability. Please be accountable for your accusations and provide evidence or an apology.
Most if not all legal gun owners support tough penalties for any use of a gun in a crime. This incident is unfortunate, and likely as others have pointed out at least partially attributable to the low income housing. Low income housing in Derry was the scene of two shootings in 2009.
When it coms to guns, get the facts, not the myths.
- Michael Layon, Derry
Only an idiot would fire into the air for what goes up must come down and hopefully no one is in the way of the bullet when it does come down..

i lived at 183 eastern ave years ago we owned a condo there, it was the only owner occupied building in the complex. then they started building the yellow buildings which are low income housing, thats when i sold! since then there has been a rash of troubles there, poverty breeds crime! thank goodness i moved out of manchester it has become lawrence/lowell north!

181 Eastern Avenue is an Apartment Complex. It's probably yet another drug deal or drug party gone bad. So much for non violent offenders. We are all lucky that no one was injured or killed.
Neither the police nor the Army can do anything to protect you. The only thing they can do is tell the State Medical Examiner when to tag your toe and stuff you into a body bag. I'm in the Army. If any of the respondents were, then they would know all of this already.
Arm yourselves and defend yourselves, legally.

Chris in Derry, listen next time before opening your mouth. I've lived here all my life, I AM a responsible gun owner.
The Free Staters who parade around downtown with guns on their hips, showing them off to each other, aren't.
- Adam F., Merrimack
I am much more concerned over the actions of law inforcement personnel than the many trumped up straw man worries. I have been witness to too many blunders and violations. The poliece need to recognize the laws covers their actions as well as the citizens. Police in manchester disobey the orders of various judges and courts, fail to ommit they have ever errored, ommit key relevant data from police reports, falisfy teestimoney..perform illegal medical procedures on arrested persons ( in the name of policy) loose key court evidence supporting defendents innocents and try to bill probationars $500 per day in court fees for traffic charges..If they can't control the records and officers behaviors to be lawful and civil We the people are lost.. "Leave Free or Die "
we are slaves

Hey Adam from Merrimack, Don't like it here? go back to where you came from or take a moment to reflect on what our great state stands for. Most legal gun owners are law respecting responsible updstanding citizens. most illegal gun owners are quite the opposite. If you take guns away from the responsible folks, only irresponsible folks will have guns. Good luck to you my friend.
- Chris, Derry
Richard,
Quit your crying. The small city of Utica, NY, half the size of Manchester suffers more crime than the whole state of NH. So, get off the Mayors back, unless you can do a better job. If so, step up to the mic.
- Paul, Manchester
It's just the Free Staters doing their open carry silliness. They're taking it to the next level and needed to be reassured by hearing their own gun.
- Adam F., Merrimack
Shootings, Killings and out of control bar brawls continue and our Congressman wannabe do nothing Mayor claims Manchester is not a dangerous city, he is more worried about parking revenue that he is about stopping crime. Looks like his plans to fight crime are decided on over a shot and a beer at the East Manchester Fish & Game Club. It will be nice when he is an ex-mayor and an also ran. The first district CD needs better than Guinta representing it.
